H22A M2B4 Transmission not going out of reverse!!
I stopped at a local store and when I got back into my car, it refused to go into reverse! So finally, I forced it into reverse but now it refuses to come out of reverse . Selector mechanism and shift cables look ok so I am wondering if anyone here might know what the problem might be...
BTW, now when I try to move the shifter, it is like it's stuck in one position - It just keeps "springing" up and down - it will not go side ways for the other gears or anything.
All this started to happen when I was having problems with the tranny going into 3rd so I put some GM Syncromesh in there a few hours ago and now it started doing this
Any help would be aprecciated - I am not sure wether I should get it rebuilt or just buy another used one...

Hey whats up h2b (lol h2b is lookin good about now but $ is not lol). I just found some extra shifter cables I had laying around so I am about to go try that and see. I know it's a shot in the dark but I guess I have nothing to lose right now...

Re: (h2b_eg8)
When I had my H22 civic I had a very similar problem. I got locked out of reverse and 5th gear. I tried a few things to try and get it to work better but I didn’t have any success. Once I pulled the tranny out and cracked it open I found that 5th gear was damaged, I replaced all the needed parts and went over the rest of the gears and they all looked fine. I redid the linkage and it felt perfect for about 2 months, then maybe once a week it would be hard to put in. I know that there are lots of people that have issues with prelude tranmissions, they don't seem to like the abuse that B and D trannies can take.
I would make sure that your linkage doesn’t have any binding and that your clutch is good. Even once its fixed this may not be the last time you have issues with it.

Well I tried those shifter cables and still no go - so yeah it's definately something internal. BTW, I called gearspeed and they said to fix my M2B4 tranny is gonna cost anything FROM $1400 -

There are certain things that bother me about the h2b setup ...
1. We already cut a big hole for the prelude shifter box so I guess some plating or such is required to get the old shifter to work again?
2. I will have to change mounts and axles again right? I just had my DSS Stage 3 rebuilt
3. I read on here that h2b is mostly for drag racing and NOT daily driving. I drive my car as much as I can!
Well those are my dilemmas with the h2b stuff - right now just confused what to do

Was lookin into a F22 Tranny because I found some at a good deal but after checking alot of posts on here - I decided that I will just try to get the original one fixed or find another H22 tranny...

This happened in my prelude when it was new.
Honda gave me a new transmission under warranty.
The 5th gear shift fork was bent, which kept activating the safety lockout on R. I couldn't ever get it into R, but I imagine it would have been stuck if I did.

Re: (ALLMOTORH22A)
It's definately the fork IMO, I had the exact same problem with my first trans and then I bought a fairly new M2B4. I could get into gears but yeah you had to muscle it side to side and absolutely no reverse
I would just go ahead and get it rebuilt if you can't find a used one, The H2B would be a good option but by the time you add everything up for that you could just get all the goodies(carbon syncs, new lsd and final drive) in a rebuilt M2B4..

Re: (CXHATCHver2.2)
You must be right CXHatch because I called around and talked to some people and most of them said it was the fork - so is the fork bent? Can it be straightened or should I just replace it? Only probs I had with my M2B4 was that it would not go into 3rd at high rpm (synchro?) and now this problem where it just got stuck in reverse.
BTW, I forgot to mention, if you start the car and slowly let off the clutch, the car starts to move in reverse but you can hear it starting to grind - like its half way in reverse

Re: (pcguy760)
I don't know about the straightening, I have heard of people making them custom but this would probably be too expensive. The 3rd gear problem i havent had so I'm not sure, It could be the syncro though but that problem is more common on 5th gear

If you take the tranny out and open it up, you could get to the shift forks that way. Consider having new ones CNC'ed in billet aluminum; shouldn't cost a whole lot. If ytou already having grinding, I would consider getting another transmission. Also, $1400 is just for their base model; just have carbon synchros put in for some addition few hundred and have a fresh new tranny, I say. You got to pay to play.
Make sure you tell us where have the new shift forks done, too

Re: (MoonScryer)
Moon, yeah I confirmed that the damaged fork will have to be replaced so I cannot re-use them. Besides I want this thing fully rebuilt so I will not have to mess with it no time soon... I am trying my best to keep my M2B4
