Came back from a smog station today in CA
I just came from a test only station today to get my 97 SH smogged and I passed! I have a 97 SH with i/h/e/p/high flow cat. I was completely surprised that I passed. I did clean out my EGR valve, changed plugs, cap and rotor.
There was one bit of information I did not know when I was speaking to the smog tech. (A Friend of mine). He told me that he came from a seminar that all techs had to go to. Anything with a "Carb sticker" does not apply anymore for it being legal in "CA". I thought it only applied to "cats," but apparently not. He told me that any modification done to Hondas and Acuras will be subject to checking under hood. He specifically said hondas and acuras are the target. I dont know how valid his statements are, but this is what he told me.
So be careful out there... for people in Ca.

He was telling me that even the CARB#'s are illegal as well for aftermarket parts. At least this is what the smog tech told me. If you could get pulled over and they pop your hood they will impound your car if you have any mods. Can anyone clarify this? He told me this is effective this year.

hahaha man that really sucks if its true. think of how many cars in Cali there are that are modded with carb stuff. if carb stuff is illegal wouldnt the state have to go up against companies like AEM? GReddy? DC? im not saying your friend is a liar but honestly thats alot the state would have to go through. just my $00.02.

That's why I don't like Cali, too much BS, not there there's none here in Texas, but I have not had to pop my hood when I get pulled over and inspection stations don't even bother either.

are the cops really that bad? I just pulled over for a bad headlight. I had overdue registration and a cracked window but he let me off.

Speaking of our friends, "the cops". I got pulled over today for modified exhaust and being lowered. He then asked me to pop my hood. He saw my carb exempt stickers and let me go for my intake and header. He then saw my clear record and let me go with a warning for everything. I guess my smog tech lied to me about the carb exempts being "illegal". Oh well, im just happy I was let go with a warning.
