JDM B18C swap into a 1998 Civic EX coupe.........
I need some help. I got a 1997 JDM ITR B18C engine and trans in my car. It was running for a while and now I can't the damn thing started again. The motor cranks when the key is turned but doesn't continue to run on it's own. I have brand new plugs, wires, cap, rotor...still no luck. What the hell am I missing???? I am getting spark out of the wires and i can smell fuel coming out of the exhaust while/after cranking engine. Do the distributors for these motors tend to go easily? Any info would help. Thanks.

How does it sound when it cranks? Do you have enought compression?
If you can smell fuel coming out of the exhaust/tailpipe, then maybe your running way too rich. Do you have a FPR? turn down your fuel pressure....

Re: (sivik2nr)
i don't have an aftermarket FPR I just have the stock one. Looks like factory injectors and rail as well. The engine sounds pretty much normal while cranking...except you can almost pick out one of the cylinders more prominently than the others. Not necessarily louder but more easy to pick out from the other 3.
for ex. 1.2.3..4 the 4th being the easiest to pick out. I tried to screw with the distributor angle but no luck.

check to make sure your timing belt is the proper tension too.. about two weeks ago, my set screw came out of my rotor, the rotor let loose inside the distributor cap... mass damage to the cap and rotor but the distrib was fine.. but my timing belt came loose a bit as well..When I tried to crank it, it sounded ok, but kinda more like, rrrr rrrr rrrrr RRRR, rrrrr rrrrrr rrrrrr RRRRR, and a little more sporadic and fluctuating.

timing belt's tighter'n a ducks ***
the only other thing i can see it being is the timing is totally off.
Ex. (distributor on #1 cyl. TDC w/ #4 cyl. TDC on crank)

also double check your spark plug wires to make sure that they are in the correct sequence... even if you looked at something and are positive you got them right, just check again...
sometime the simple stuff get overlooked...
sometimes you'll hear a 'poping' from the exhaust , kinda like backfiring when the wires are mixed up

Re: (sivik2nr)
single, double and triple checked
A O K
Also...I don't know if you've ever heard anything like this b4...
as i turn the key and it doesn't start...I turn the key backwards out of the ignition cylinder and the motor jumps as if there is some fuel in the cylinder and me turning the key off is causing some sort of spark into a cylinder causing it to fire

my distributor died about 2 months ago and i wasnt get spark at all, if you are 100% sure you are getting spark to the wires them it is probibly not dead, but the cap or rotor may be bad.
what ecu are you using? is it chipped?

Re: (euclid)
This may sound crazy but does the car run when you hold the key in the run position? One time my key cylinder wore out and the car would not run unless I held the key. This was on an older CRX but it could be worth a shot if nothing else is working...
nevermind I just re-read and realized that it wasnt starting at all...sorry
