I have a b17. Should I turbo or b20vtec? Oppions please
As the title says I have a b17. Im not sure if I want to turbo it or use the head for a b20vtec. A mechanic that has done some work on my car(that doesnt do much work on honda's) already told me that the b17 block is weak and the compression is too high for boost. I just want some oppinions because i really want to turbo it, but if he's right about the block, b20vtec seems to be the way to go. I figured some new pistons would solve the compression problems, so I was more worried about the block being weak. How much do you think I would be looking at doing each choice. Thanks alot everyone

The B17A bare block is actually identical to the B16A block. But the pistons, rods, and crank are different. The B17A crank gives you about 5mm more stroke. This is where the extra .1 liter comes from.The B16A has 160hp and 111lbs tq while the B17A has 160hp and 118lbs of tq.The B17A has the lowest compression of all DOHC VTEC motor of 9.7:1 compression,when adding boost just make sure to get it tune.

its no weaker than any other b-series bro. The compression isn't really no dif than a b16 or gs-r. Itll be fine turbo or whatever, or jus let me get that bitch.

Thanks for the info guys. My friend actually has an extra turbo hes tryin to sell. Im sure he'll hook me up for cheap if I want it. Its a 16g from an evo (the evo's stock trubo. he got a huge *** g35r or some **** pushin like 500whp now) that he doesnt want anymore. How do you guys think that would do? Should I look into that or look into aftermarket. I gota do some more research ive never had a turbo car before. thanks again
