Help on valve adjustment
I just adjusted my valves on my 1995 Del Sol Si (D16 Z6). I adjusted them to .08 intake and .1 exhaust. I went to start the car and it will not turn over. I think it may be that they were not a TDC when adjusted. There were 3 marks on the crank pulley, but the marks were not in quarter intervals across the pulley. How is the pulley supposed to look at TDC for the adjustet f each cyclinder. Need help quick..... Someone with a HELMS................

Re: Help on valve adjustment (GTlvr82)
Yes I did it in that order. I just did it 3 more times and it still isn't starting. I am almost positive I did it right because while I was turning the crank pulley the compression would let out right when I got it to where I thought TDC was. And of course from there I adjusted the valves. I don't understad why the car is not starting, I don't think that even a bad valve adjustment will prevent the car from starting. I also replaced the cap and rotor and spark plugs today. I drove the car after I did the cap and rotor so I know that was fine. And I just tried switching back to the old spark plugs and it is still not starting. When I turn the ignition it make a sound as if the starter is trying to go, but it doesn't seem like the cam will turn over. So it is just this constant buzzing type sound. I guess I can kiss class goodbye tomorrow. Last class before finals to, what a shame.

Re: Help on valve adjustment (DMF)
Check to see if you have the spark pug wires in the right order.
I know from letting friends install my wires that the car will not start if they are switched. It wil just make groaning sounds.

Re: Help on valve adjustment (White Lightnin)
I'm almost entirely positive they are correct. They are in the order:
Moving from the top left in a clockwise direction 1,3,4,2
Any other ideas??

Re: Help on valve adjustment (DMF)
I just pulled the spark lugs again and there is quited a bit of a gas sent when you pull each one. I really need to get this fixed.
edit: I just checked to see if they were getting spark and they were, so this makes no sense. Gas+Spark= running engine

Re: Help on valve adjustment (DMF)
When I adjusted the valves I took the top bar off, it runs parallel with the cam, not sure what it is called. Do you think adjusting the valves with this off could have had anything to do with it?

If you're seeing that much gas, it might be flooded.
Yes, Hondas flood out too!
Hold the gas pedal to floor, and start cranking her over.
Try that for a bit and see if she starts.
I thought my h22 wasn't starting and that I screwed something up, but she was just flooded

So you took the cam cap off? You are definately not supposed to do that. You cam timing could be all f'd up now.

It is the very top piece, has about 16 or so bolts holding it in and it holds the v-tec solonoids I believe.

Re: Help on valve adjustment (White Lightnin)
Problem solved. I re-adjusted the valves with the cam support on. This made the difference. The cylinders had no compression afetr the valves were adjusted with it off. Well I guess it was a good learning expierence, but I waisted a substaintal amount of time. And missed my last classes before finals. Oh well life goes on.
