HELP Del Sol Valve adjustment
I just adjusted my valves on my 1995 Del Sol Si (D16 Z6). I adjusted them to .08 intake and .1 exhaust. I went to start the car and it will not turn over. I think it may be that they were not a TDC when adjusted. There were 3 marks on the crank pulley, but the marks were not in quarter intervals across the pulley. How is the pulley supposed to look at TDC for the adjustet f each cyclinder. Need help quick..... Someone with a HELMS................

Did you do it in order? 1, 3, 4, 2... You are supposed to start at the #1 cylinder, adjust, then turn the cam pulley one quarter of a turn, then cylinder #3. I dont know what you did to your car but I would go back and make sure everything is right. Also, your car wont start...what is it doing or not doing?

Re: HELP Del Sol Valve adjustment (Jackson)
Yes I did it in that order. I just did it 3 more times and it still isn't starting. I am almost positive I did it right because while I was turning the crank pulley the compression would let out right when I got it to where I thought TDC was. And of course from there I adjusted the valves. I don't understad why the car is not starting, I don't think that even a bad valve adjustment will prevent the car from starting. I also replaced the cap and rotor and spark plugs today. I drove the car after I did the cap and rotor so I know that was fine. And I just tried switching back to the old spark plugs and it is still not starting. When I turn the ignition it make a sound as if the starter is trying to go, but it doesn't seem like the cam will turn over. So it is just this constant buzzing type sound. I guess I can kiss class goodbye tomorrow. Last class before finals to, what a shame.

Get a piece of wire and touch the + battery post to the spade connector on the starter. This will bypass the ignition switch and jump the starter. If the starter is good, then it will turn.

Re: HELP Del Sol Valve adjustment (REDBARON)
I just pulled the spark lugs again and there is quited a bit of a gas sent when you pull each one. I really need to get this fixed.
edit: I just checked to see if they were getting spark and they were, so this makes no sense. Gas+Spark= running engine

Re: HELP Del Sol Valve adjustment (DMF)
When I adjusted the valves I took the top bar off, it runs parallel with the cam, not sure what it is called. Do you think adjusting the valves with this off could have had anything to do with it?

From what I know, you're only supposed to take the valve cover off. That's all. I would do it again with the bar you're referring to, on.

.08 and .1 mm? or in?
According to the Helms it's:
Intake: 0.15 - 0.19 mm (0.0059 - 0.0075 in.)
Exhaust: 0.17 - 0.21 mm (0.0067 - 0.0083 in.)
Also, did you do this with the engine cold?

If you pulled them from under the hood, then I would use those. I got these specs from the jdm dohc vtec helms.
Oops!
I thought you had the VTEC del sol.
Sorry.

Re: HELP Del Sol Valve adjustment (REDBARON)
Problem solved. I re-adjusted the valves with the cam support on. This made the difference. The cylinders had no compression afetr the valves were adjusted with it off. Well I guess it was a good learning expierence, but I waisted a substaintal amount of time. And missed my last classes before finals. Oh well life goes on.

Yeah, never start a project unless you have a good amount of time to spend. I've learned this the hard way too.
