Fuse keeps blowing after replacing brake switch
Auryt, so I turn on my car and I had it in park couldn't get it into Drive. Then I noticed a rubber thing on the floor looked under the dash and it was the brake light switch. So I replaced it and turn on the car turned on the cluster lights and it wouldn't turn on. I checked the fuse and one of the 10a fuse was blown and the 20a fuse under the hood was out also. Replaced it like 2 times and still blows. Anyone got any suggestions?

Re: Fuse keeps blowing after replacing brake switch
i had the same issue, but it was my fuse under the hood that kept popping. No lights, no horn. I didn't even bother checking my brake lights until my buddies pointed it out to me during the night. I kept replacing fuse after fuse, even tested my wiring for shortages. NOthing. I then brought it in to my cousin's shop, he said that he had a few civics doing this. He popped the interior kick panel off the driver side to get to the floor harness wiring, unplugged it and replugged them back. VOILA! fixed since then...maybe try this first. it worked for me, maybe it'll work for you too!

Re: Fuse keeps blowing after replacing brake switch
well if that's what happened, the cluster lights/ brake lights/ corner lights kept blowing the fuse.
happened to me too. turned out to be a wire in the headlights/city lights , or just lucky jiggling the dash harness where the radio/clock/hazard area is.
just pop off your cluster garnish, and jiggle wires.
jiggle all wires/look for breaks in headlight/corner wiring.
should be able to find that way.

Re: Fuse keeps blowing after replacing brake switch
I've had the underhood fuse blow repeatedly before from a burnt out tail light bulb believe it or not, broken filament was shorting out inside the bulb I guess.

Re: Fuse keeps blowing after replacing brake switch
when this happened to me, it was during my amber clock install.
I clipped the red wire so it stays bright instead of dim when the headlights/corners are on.
brake lights/cluster lights/ corners are all on one fuse.
so I had my hood open, and dash bezel, cluster, radio etc.. OUT of the way.
jiggle everything. check all wires.
especially all wires that could be opened. Maybe your cd player isn't wired to the orange "illuminate" wire and the harness orange is touching ground somewhere.
you just need to get in there and play with wires man

Re: Fuse keeps blowing after replacing brake switch
Fuse 19 protects the dimmer switch-controlled cluster/climate control panel lights and the taillights/parking lights/license plate lights (not the brake lights).
A common cause for a short in the fuse 19 circuit is a short in the Red/Black wire at the rear of the (aftermarket) radio. Check there and, if that's fine, then check the taillight and parking light bulb receptacles.

Re: Fuse keeps blowing after replacing brake switch
Okay so this morning I went to go move the car I couldn't get out of park again. Didn't have time to check for any problems. Was rushing to work this morning. Think that would have blow my fuses?

I am having the same problem with a fuse that keeps blowing... It's number 33 on the under the hood fuse diagram, anyone got any ideas on this one?

After reading this whole thread what have you done to track down the problem? As with the OP the first guess is going to be a short.
