d16z6 gas mileage..
I just wanted to start a thread to maybe get a general idea of what my eg hatch should be getting to the gallon cause it seems worse than the EPA rating significantly. State your weight, car driven, & rim size, & general driving habits. I'm around 245, getting 24 mpg, 50/50 city/hwy, in a 93 cx hatch. New fuel filter..

Around 190lbs. 1993 Civic 2dr EX with D16Z6 and ex manual trans. Stock rims, drive moderate to occasional put the pedal to metal. Mix of city/highway 32-36mpg. (depends if I run AC but usually I dont). No major modifications. Front Strutbar, OEM rear sway, and teg seats. Oh and I usually have about 20 lbs of tools in the trunk

We have a '92 Civic EX 4 Dr manual. Original owners and everything stock. On recent trip to Minnesota from Colorado we got a high of 41.07 to a low of 32.84 with the A/C running the whole time. Average is 32 -35 mpg with A/C. Best ever was 55 mpg once commuting to Denver.

How are you guys getting so much better mileage? I mean I know I'm a fatass, but there has to be something killing my mpg. Would running seafoam through my block probably help? It's got about 220xxx on it.

I think Its mostly driving techniques, i personally start off from a roll at 1.2-1.7k and i always shift at 2k. I dont downshift going uphill if i dont see my rpms decreasing..i do the speed limit, sometimes a bit under just because lol, but check on your stuff to see what the deal is man.

Si hatchback, hx rims, full interior. I'm getting about 34-38 on my z6, very conservative. City/Highway 40/60. Also I agree with ichi3, it's just the driving technique, I've actually tested hard acceleration and average 31-32 mpg, it's been up ever since I picked up a vacuum gauge to monitor engine load.
Gotta be an efficient driver also, don't waste energy haha. Hyper milling techniques definitely make a difference.
I've tried this method and I've gotten 28 mpgs lol, it might be the way I'm doing it. Do you drive in 5th gear at 40mph? Hearing a lot of people saying it's better to increase speed at a high gear slowly.

Tires over a long distance can be a huge factor in the equation, good tires can make up 2-3mpg easy. Also, shifting out at 2k is not the most economical way to obtain the best mpg you can get in your 5 speeds. Technically if you look at it your car actually gets better gas mileage at closer to 3k rpms while cruising interstate than you would at 2k even with more revs turning the car actually equates to a better gas efficiency. I have a 94 EX with stock 4 spd auto tranny, cold air intake, exhaust and I run the air and pull 34-35 on highway, before a brand new set of tires (low pro's 16's) I was getting 31 with air off. Also a large bit depends on how often you hammer down on it!

Re: d16z6 gas mileage..
my last z6 setup.
fully built bottom end 9:1, built head, P&p head, port matched junk2 intake, thermal intake gasket, stock z6 cam, stock eg si chassis, stock s20 trans, on a 50 mile trip for work daily i was getting 43mpg on interstate w/cc on at 65. tire size would have been either 205/50/15 or some form of a 14" tire on bottle caps i had both just dont remember. this was with fresh tune up, new oem fuel filter.
