D16y8: Drop compression ratio
Hey everyone. I'm considering dropping my compression ratio in my d16y8, in anticipation of FI. I've been told that the pistons from a d16a1 will RAISE the ration to about 12:1.. Are there any stock pistons that I can use to drop it about 1 point?

the d16y8 has the perfect compression ratio for turbo. why drop it. learn more about turbos, before u go messing with your engine for them drop comp on a turbo is only good if u can;t tune for ****. keep it stock or right around 10:1:1.
if u drop it to 8:5:1 u will get lag. keep it stock. i boosted my b16a1 for my first turbo. 10:1:1 no problems. ran great, spooled quick. keep it stock. just read up.

I have read up. And what I've read indicates that dropping the ratio will increase the lifespan of the head. I wouldn't bother if that wasn't the case.

It won't increase the life of the head, just prevent detonation. Your not going to be boosting to 15lbs with stock internals anyway, so if you have good fuel management, you won't need to lower the c/r.

Read more, the stock compression ratio is fine and won't have any impact on the head. Only thing lower CR buys you is less change for detonation. However you shouldn't detonate on stock pistons unless you have try to run too much boost, or sloppy tuning.
If you insist on dropping it, z6 pistons should do the job, but I wouldn't spend the money to buy oem cast pistons to change CR for a turbo. If you are going in to do internals to accomodate a turbo, do it right with forged pistons and a good set of rods.

go back to the Forced Induction forum. I saw your post in there just didn't open it up. Boost the stock Y8 to 8psi and have no problems. y8's and Z6's are the same strength so don't swap rods or anything unless you're going aftermarket rods. However the rods from a 86-87 D16A integra ( brown valve cover ) will be good up to 250hp compared to the y8's and Z6's 200hp rods. BTW the integra rods are a direct fit.

I would not recommend looking for a drop in compression using cast pistons; your stock compression is fine for a tuned 8-9 psi and quick spool-up.
