1998 honda civic ac expansion valve replacement
Greetings
My AC compressor failed last fall....waited until now to replace......as a side note when the compressor failed it started to skweel.....almost like the belt was slipping....and maybe it was...
anyway I will be replacing the compressor and drier.....should I replace the expansion valve as well.....it looks like it would be a pain to change. any thoughts? and how much time does it take to get to it?
Thanks
Rick

You need to remove the HVAC box under the dash to replace it, not super hard but not super easy. I would just leave the expansion valve be. Most of the time unless you replace it with an OEM Honda valve you will have more problems. For example I replaced mine and now it makes a whistling noise, AC works great but the expansion valve is noisy, not very common. Replace the drier, compressor and condenser and you should be good. Unless your compressor blew up and you have tons of metal in the AC system you dont need to replace it.

thanks for the input.......I was pleasantly surprised...when I call and talked with the local shop I use for things I choose or cannot do....when asked about a vac and fill they said no more than $70........when I said I wanted it flushed they said $10 more......pretty fair I thought...

Yeah good price. Yes if the compressor came apart internally you NEED to flush the system. A lot of time thought either the clutch fails or the front bearing gets noisy, if this is the case no need to flush but it never hurts.
