1998 Civic EX - keyless system problem
I lost my keyless remote to my civic a few weeks ago - it was working fine before I lost it. I went to the dealer the other day and bought a new remote. They gave me programming instructions - which required holding the valet button on the factory radio. An aftermarket radio was put in like 10 years ago but the factory radio was still inside the dash. I pulled out the factory radio (luckily I still had the face to it). The radio turns on; however, when I hold the valet button down the locks do not ever cycle. The other buttons on the radio work fine (though the volume **** does not - it turns but volume doesn't go up or down).
Power door locks work fine using the switch on the driver door (and worked fine w/ the remote before I lost it). All doors lock when I lock the driver door from the outside using the key. Any suggestions about why the locks won't cycle while holding down the valet button? Apparently I need them to do so to enter "programming mode" in order to program the new remote. Is it a fuse issue maybe????

Re: 1998 Civic EX Door lock cycling issue
I appreciate the reply. I've tried the steps above; however, on step 3 I am not hearing the "sound of the actuators turning to UNLOCK". Should the door locks shift from the lock to unlock position? Or is there some noise?
Either way, I'm not hearing any sorts of sounds, whether I press the valet button for 5 seconds or press a button on the remote...

Re: 1998 Civic EX - keyless system problem
I had the same problem with my '98 EX eventually. I ended up just removing the radio since I was pretty sure the connection between the radio and the radio face just was no longer good. It's a ribbon type connection and I don't think removing the face was ever really advisable.
If I want keyless again I'll just need to get an aftermarket set up.

So someone at lost and found turned in my lost keychain (and keyless remote). It of course still works fine. Go figure.

Re: 1998 Civic EX - keyless system problem
The keyless remote never comes into play in steps 1 through 3 in the diagram I posted. Therefore, the problem you were having had nothing to do with the remote and you still have the valet button problem.

^ lol and the letdown.
How similar is the 00 system to this? I have an 00 and it's just a few key turns and pressing the keyless a couple times to program. Would it be hard to transplant an 00 module in there to avoid these whole OEM radio shenanigans?

Re: 1998 Civic EX - keyless system problem
sorry to bump up a old post...
I think it's better ask a question rather open a new post...
Will I able to wire up 98-00 Keyless entry in to 96-98.
I sold my 96 keyless entry when I brought new headunit.
But now i wanna have a OEM keyless on my car.
Is that possible to wiring up 99keyless entry in 96? Plug and play or need to re wire?

No the 99 is totally different, I assume the floor harness will be different. You will need a 96-98 radio again and transmitter and wire it back in with a T harness if you have an aftermarket radio, too bad you didn't keep the stock radio.
Or you can go with an aftermarket system.

Re: 1998 Civic EX - keyless system problem
Lock and Keyless in one module is all I wanted. If I wire 98-00 into 96-98, will it work???
Because I don't want to remove the dash everytime when I need to program the remote!
As I also need my aftermarket headunit.
I think 98-00 is the best keyless unit for me, just wondering will it work or not?
Just wanna make sure before spend 100 bucks for the module.

If I need to wire it anyway... I would rather perfer wire it for 99 one.
Anyone have a wiring diagram for 98-00, I will really appreciated.

Re: 1998 Civic EX - keyless system problem
96-98 are different than 99-00.
I am thinking the 99 has a different floor harness than the 96-98's so you will not have the connector for the keyless.
I doubt it can be done without major modifications.
Just get an aftermarket keyless or better yet alarm with keyless.

Re: 1998 Civic EX - keyless system problem
Just get a t harness for the radio in there now and junk yard or ebay for a 96-98 radio. As for programming you do it once unless it loses programming which happens once in a blue moon.
