Default Brand new radiator, new thermostat, overheated after trying to run heat.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this...
Anyways, I have a 2003 Honda Civic. I was recently having some overheating issues. I had the thermostat changed and that did not work. I then had the radiator changed as the mechanic said it was clogged. There were no overheating issues after that for about a half of a week. I took my car from Phoenix to Flagstaff, which is about 150 miles. Once I got there I sat with the car idling and turned on my heat. It blew ICE COLD air and once I started driving again the heater remained blowing cold air, but the temperature gauge went completely hot. I checked the fluids this morning and there wasn't any room to put coolant in the radiator itself, but the overflow tank was completely empty.

Check for a blown head gasket as these engines are notorious for it.
