If you have the switch out, take the switch apart.
Look at the contacts, and verify they are clean, and no arcing. If there is arcing the switch is most likely worn out and no longer making proper contact with the terminals when the key is turned to III(START).
If you are feeling ghetto fabulous...
If when the key is turned to II(ON) all the dash lights are functional.
Go under hood and jumper a wire from the positive terminal to the smaller solenoid wire terminal on the starter.
If the starter kicks over no problem and the car starts, then most likely there is an issue with the switch.
Obviously with an AT make sure the car is in P, and with MT make sure the trans is in neutral and the clutch pedal is depressed.
Click on the 'TechAuto' link in my sig, there is a section on Ignition switch.

If you turn the key to the 2 position, yes, the dash lights should be working. If not, it's almost certain the switch is bad so replace it.

Check the under hood fuse box - possible that you shorted something when changing the ign switch.
Next, recheck the battery cables. Both ends of both cables should be clean and tight. Just me but the original issue sounded like a bad battery connection to me....key to on (light elect load) and the dash/dome lights work. Turn the key to start (large elect load) and everything goes dead..........

Clean your battery terminals really well. Both the terminals of the battery and inside the connectors. Additionally, make sure no corrosion has worked its way up the wires.

Re: 96 4door wont start (ignition switch?)
here's abasic wiring diagram
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...tail/1033.html
all the major wires accounted for.
u might have a grounding issue. these hondas have very small ground wires. my lights dim with no radio on, just headlights and a turn signal. look into the Big Three Upgrade or follow my thread on the security/audio/video forum
the original Big Three thread

heres a pic of the engine ground cable LMFAO. a little corrosion and this thing is worthless. the other cables are not as small but easily corruptable

Re: 96 4door wont start (ignition switch?)
That is just one of the many ground cables. The one I'd worry with the most is from the battery. It goes from the ground post to the body and then to the trans.
