y8 turbo hp figures
i was perusing the turbod16 forums and noticed some people with a greddy kit on y8 engines only making ~140 whp. doesnt that seem pretty low for a baseline hp figure of 127 crank hp? a mod over 1000 bux only adding 20 hp to the wheels give or take. could it be in a heavier car? why are the numbers so slow? even w/o intercooler and bov

Re: y8 turbo hp figures (deviant1)
its a small *** turbo, that runs overly rich with the blue box, at low psi.
its perfectly normal.
"stock" drag kits give like 200 whp on gsr's

I've seen a B20/VTEC turbo civic run a 15.3 in the quarter. I've seen a greddy turbo'd Y8 run a 12.8 in the 1/4 (same track, same day - saw it with my own eyes).
Does that mean anything? No.
At 5 psi on a SOHC motor, what do you really expect? the guys making big power are running big boost, simple as that.
Most greddy turbo y8's are making 195-215whp at 10 psi.

Re: y8 turbo hp figures (RyanCivic2000)
I made 180 whp 164 wtq on a mustang dyno with the Y8 at 9 psi on the Greddy kit. 14.1 ET. Current building the bottom end right now. So there is some potential?

Also the new 96+ Civic turbo is a little bigger than the old 15g. Also comes with E-manage which is a nice feature till you really start turning up the boost.

Re: y8 turbo hp figures (coupedup)
i've seen the greddy kit turn out some good numbers... just ditch the blue box and go with some DSM 450's and the afc hack or better yet get a hondata. VTC_Civic made almost 220whp @ like 11psi or so on a greddy kit a year or so ago. Another guy I think made even more power at a lil bit more boost can't remember his screenname though

You've heard wrong.
I'm running the blue box at 10 psi on my greddy y8, stock fuel system and it's fine. Detonating a little though, because I need to back up my timing 1 degree.

baseline hp is like 100whp - so 140whp from the turbo is 40whp more. Thats like a stock b16a. Id expect those numbers from a stock greddy kit at stock boost (which is what..like 4-5psi?) Guessing around 8-10hp per 1psi of boost, 8*5 = 40 or 10*4=40 also). It all adds up.

have you gotten any dyno numbers with it?

Re: y8 turbo hp figures (SOHC_MShue)
Once I get my fuel pump and clutch in, I'll try to hit the dyno by April or so
Hoping for 200whp

Re: y8 turbo hp figures (RyanCivic2000)
hondata sounds like a good idea, but I have a blown headgasket right now. I don't know if I should change it out, get the hondata, and then get it retuned, OR just change gaskets and sell my whole setup and do the dreaded swap . If i stick with the same setup for sure takin it for a st00pid tune, I just live about an hour and a half away

Re: y8 turbo hp figures (SOHC_MShue)
SOHC_MShue I run 11psi all day with the blue box and it runs fine, rich rich rich, but fine. Even with a blown HG, Although my car is just used for work and back purposes for now (anything more and it overheats). Just don't get boost crazy like me, it fried at about 13psi. I was lucky this time--blew my last y8 at 13psi heheheheheheh and you think one would learn from his mistakes.
