Default newb qustion, all motor vs turbo driving differences

i have a turbod d16 with stock internals, i've been turbod for a while but i still always worry about staying in boost for too long, or goin in and out of boost repetatively

so like heres an example last year when i wasn't boosted, i would go driving on country roads and just stay at higher rpms then floor it going in and out of turns. but now that i'm boosted i don't floor it b/c i think i will eventually just put too much heat inside my engine and it would knock

should i be worrying about this? or should i be able to drive my boosted set up like i drove my all motor?

If you have a good tune and good enough cooling system to handle you repeatedly beating on it, then I see no prob doing what you please

Agreed. I have a 'conservative' tune. Meaning it runs a little richer then most tunes. When you run too lean is when bad bad things happen.
A good tune can be setup to be boost dependent or rpm dependent. So you don't have to ruin your daily driving gas mileage.

A good enough cooling system will keep temps within acceptable ranges. There are some of us who run turbo setups on track for 20-30 minutes sessions with no (major) problems. Being aggressive on the back roads should not be a problem. If it is, then the turbo is not the problem. You either need better airflow through the radiator, a bigger radiator, an oil cooler, or more oil capacity.

i have a conservative tune .. i've been told i could go a little richer, maybe 5%

when you talk about cooling systems, are you referring to just like the intercooler and radiator?

or more in depth like water injection

Yes, cooling system, as in a good radiator with fresh coolant. Also, if you want your boosted motor to last. I recomend changing the oil more frequently, like at 1500 miles instead of 3000. Change the oil as soon as you notice it turning black would be optimal.
