Max Bore for Dart Block? (or can it be re-sleeved)

Default Max Bore for Dart Block? (or can it be re-sleeved)

Hey guys, i've got a dart block here that someone destroyed. it was 11.5:1 compression and their cams were to agressive and snapped the ends of the valves off. Anyways, i'm looking to use this block for my boosted car so that i can crank the boost up some more. The current bore is 84.5 and i'm looking at it thinking that it would have to be taken to at least 85.5 or 86mm to get it all cleaned up from the damage to the walls. How far is to far on a Dart block, or can i have it re-sleeved?

i do believe the sleeves are removable and replaceable (rather easily too).......contact dart about that

It would have to be really F'ed up to require a full 1.5mm to clean things up. Id like to see pics.

The sleeves are replaceable on the dart blocks.I think they list them as dry sleeves so any machine shop should be able to replace

It wouldnt be so bad if it were those few BIG dings in the cyl wall. It'd be worth taking it to an engine shop to see how much they would have to bore it to remove all that. I bet its not as much as you think. Then just have em O-ring it if your worried about HG thinness between the cylinders.

i'm more concerned with the thickness of the cylinder walls if i bore it farther than it already is. current bore is 84.5mm

I'm thinkin i would rather have it re-sleeved and go back to stock bore so that i could boost the **** out of it!

Dart says 85mm so get it checked first might be able to get away with a .5mm over

I know it's a Dart block but I don't know if I'd boost a 86mm block.That's kind of thin sleeve. Oh and the price for low comp. pistons are gonna be through the roof!! They'll probably have to be custom made so you'd probably be better off getting it resleeved or getting like a set of 5 or 6 custom pistons just in case!!

Plenty of people run them at 86mm with boost, mine is at 85.5. If you want a sleeve replaced, then send it to Dart. I hydro-locked mine, stretched the main caps and split a sleeve at the bottom where one rod bent like a banana. A new sleeve cost $60 and Dart installed it and bored/honed the mains for $150 with a one-week turnaround. I talked to the guy at Dart and people send them back their blown up blocks all the time (mostly the Ford and Chevy blocks). They fix them back to factory specs quickly and get them back out there. Based on my experience with Dart, they really stand behind their product.

i talked to dart today & got some great news. They told me that they would have to look at it & inspect everything but for 4 new sleeves replaced & preped & everything ready to go again it's going to cost me about 300 bucks. The told me that after they recieve the block & check everything, they will call me with an exact amount but that was their estimate over the phone.

I'm extreamly excited to hear about that because that means that i pretty much got a dart block for about 300 plus shipping.

That sounds about right, they take care of people who buy their blocks. I know the damage to my block probably would have wrecked a sleeved Honda block, but it cost $210 total to get it fixed. I was very happy to have the Dart at that point.
