Default igntion problems, questions

First of all, the problem. I just got the engine completely built up and put in a few weeks ago. Every once and a while, usually at WOT, it will suddenly lose all power and the check engine light comes on. After a second the light goes out and everything returns to normal. It happens more when I'm punching it in first gear and hit second (it happens when the car jerks into second). Out of spark, fuel, and air - it is definately getting air. I think something would be really messed up by now if it was not getting fuel when this happens. This leads me to believe that it is the distributor flaking out on me. It feels like the car just stalled but because it is in gear it starts slowing me down from engine drag. I know the 2nd gen tegs had problems with the distributor - I've got the services records of mine being replaced shortly before I boughts it. So I'm pretty convinced now that I've found the problem.

Now, I think my situation dictates getting an aftermarket igntion now since I'm most likely going to be replacing the distributor anyways. I'm not really sure though what all I need to get. If I do replace things, I don't really want to skimp on anything - almost everything on this car has been replaced.

Yea you should really invest in a good igniton system. I hate those little distributers.I kept going through igniters. That's one of the main reasons I went with a standalone unit. Don't have to deal with that crap no more. I think an msd dig 6 ignition with external coil would be a really nice ignition to go with. It has good features like 2 stage rev limit.
