Default Speaker upgrade/fit questions: '95 Civic Coupe

I’m planning on installing a stereo and speakers in a ’95 Civic Coupe. There’s already an aftermarket deck but it’s pretty featureless so I’m getting a Sony deck with iPod controls etc.

My question is door speakers and 6x9’s for the rear:
What are my options for the doors? Can I go 6.5” speakers and use spacers to maintain clearance for the windows, but still be able to use the OE door panel and plastic speaker grill?
Also, 6x9’s for the rear. I don’t have a problem cutting holes for the speakers in the deck lid if there are no issues in doing this. Can someone confirm that this is a legit mounting location?
Thanks

Yes you can install "bigger" speakers in the doors by using "spacers" and still keep the stock grill.

Install rear speakers in the stock locations, behind stock grills, cutting in bigger speakers on the security cover will not inprove SQ, it will in fact sound like dodo. 94

Indeed. The stock locations are pretty poor and don't form any sort of seal with the door. My spacers required quite a bit of cutting in my door panels but I have a sedan.
