flex pipe needed?? if so where to put it in exhaust?
ok im running a h22a in a 94 civic with hasport mounts. i have a custom lovefab na header to 2.5inch itr cat to 2.5 inch custom welded all the way back exhaust. i dont wanna crack my header.
i do have the donut gasket and spring bolts from the header to cat. but when im going down the track and shifting gears you can see the whole exhaust jumping under the car.
so do you guys think that i need a flex pipe? if so where is the best place for it? right after the cat or? in between the header and cat?
and how well do flex pipes hold up? do they last very long?

the first thing connected to the header should be the the flex pipe imo, it's the header you are primarily protecting, the the rubber hangers handle the rest.
my latest exhaust. . . .

looks like he cut the top of a test pipe, welded it to a flew pipe, then welded it to rest of exhaust...

flex pipe came from ebay, flange and gaskets were free from exhaust pro (my welder was owed favor's by them)
It sounds great, to me any way, perfectly quit enough to be driven on low rpms around town, or have police follow me and me be fine, but also loud enough at 8100 rpms to get me ticket just a few hours ago because he heard my 2nd gear pull from "1000 feet away" haha.

I've been told by mr smsp himself that u don't need a flex pipe if you use the correct flange and the correct bolts/springs making sure they don't bind.... at least for my tri-y header that is

Re: (dinko)
welp i have to come up with something because whole exhuast is jumping when i shift gears hard. and you can hear something flexing when you shift hard because it sounds like a real loud exhaust leak then goes away after your in the next gear
like when i get wheel hop and everything shakes you can hear the exhaust leaking real bad then after the wheel hop is gone you cant hear it anymore

Yes, that is true. But I usually run a flex pipe and v-band connections so thats why I did not mention the donut/spring bolt style.

Re: (sohctodohc)
For the life of me I can't find a place that sells the flanges and donut for the spring/bolt setup, and all the muffler shops I've been to, either have never heard of it, or say they can't fabricate it.
