HELP
OK guys...already shot Dave at SMSP a message but...
I just got the head back on and the new header, and its so much longer than the JDM header that it is actually a perfect length within about a centimeter to hook simply up to the rest of my exhaust....no test pipe or Cat.
I wanted to run a testpipe so when I needed to throw the cat back on for emissions I could...the only problem is that there is a bend in the exhaust about 10 inches after the 3 bolt flange where the header would attach, which doesnt' give me any room to cut out a section of exhaust long enough to fit the test pipe or Cat...
any ideas? I am tuning monday and I was going to get a shop to weld a section, but it won't happen in time...
and besides that I would need a flared end to even hook up the exhaust...
and yes I could tune open header and just figure out the exhaust later...but with ITB's wouldn't hooking up the exhaust effect my tune afterwards?

you might want to think about just keeping that header you have f/s in your sig and picking up a cat to go between that and the exhaust. I would think that would save a ton of headaches

umm I have a $1200 header...lol I plan to use it. I already have a cat and testpipe...I gotta somehow shorten my exhaust to fit them in now with the new header...
what will probably wind up happening is that I will have to tune open header and then take my exhaust somewhere to get custom work done

I dont think you understand what im saying. Not to replace your SMSP header, but to keep the spare header and cat as an extra and swap that on when you need to go through emissions. Sorry if I wasent clear about that the first time
o yea haha that makes sense, but I kinda already think someone wants to buy the other header. I think I am going to just take off my exhaust and cut a section out and then weld a new 3 bolt flange onto it and fit the same test pipe and/or cat

Scott, I personally would go with jaa1311's suggestion.

actually after looking at the exhaust just now and measuring... the only way I am ever going to get a cat on there is to cut out the resonator and put a Cat in its place....going to be LOUD haha
there is no point in keeping that old header anyway, because of the tune with the cams, ITB's and SMSP header, if I put the old header back on it woudl run like utter ****...

You would only need to use the setup to pass emissions, not for any lengthy amount of time.

Exactly, and IMHO it is well worth it. Back when I lived in an area with emissions inspection, I would always put may car back to passing standards and let it idle like crap until the rediness codes were gone.. then just take it to the station, get it inspected, then just change out the parts and ECU. (I had port scan, not sniffer test so I had to go back to OBDII which required a decent bit of work due to other modifications).

you but I have like MAJOR modifications on my R...can't just swap a stock ECU in there and the old header back on and think I will pass emissions...won't happen haha.

You can look into a Renault Cat, HyTech sells them. I believe they are 8" long. If you can modify your B-pipe to fit that in, you can just swap between a 8" testpipe and the cat when needed.
yea thats what Dave at SMSP suggested...well for now I am just going to get a section cut out and reweld a flared end onto the exhaust so I can bolt it up for tuning...
I will worry about the other stuff come February when my emissions is due.
