New starter and car still wont start!
I don't get it, I got a starter off the board here and my car still won't start. It makes the same noise the old one did, Just a wizzing sound. The sounds like the starter isn't engaging the flywheel. Anyone have any ideas? It been over a month now and I am getting tired.

What was the condition of the previous starters gear? Check for broken teeth. Also, Your probably not engaging the solinoid. Check all your wires for clean contacts and grounds.

The car is a 98 Integra GSR with 50k. When it tries to start it sounds like the starter is ejecting and spinning, no clicking noise just a wizzing sound. The teeth on the original drive looked good. I don't think it is a wiring problem since it is spinning.

There are several symptoms of an engine not starting.
Since you have a new starter, and this 'whizzing' you are talking about, sounds to me that the flywheel is spinning just fine.
Take off your valve cover (or the oil cap off) and look inside.
When you try starting, see if your cams are spinning:
-- If your cams are NOT spinning, then there is an issue with the starter to flywheel contact, then -- being I would have the starter checked at an auto parts store such as AutoZone, and also check the teeth on the flywheel.
-- If your cams are spinning, the starter is turning the flywheel just fine, and is NOT a starter issue. All a start is supposed to do is turn the flywheel and 'start' the firing process to get the motor running again.
What you are going to have to do if your cams are spinning is check for spark and fuel delivery.
to check for spark you want to take out the spark plug wires and have someone turn the motor and see if there is spark on all cylindars inside the spark plugs.
-- if there is NOT spark, then make sure spark plugs are good, check connections with spark plug wires, and also make sure internals inside the distributor (such as coil, ICM (ignition control module) are good and properly working).
-- if there is spark in all, then smell inside the combustion chambers for fuel.

would it be a fuel or ignition problem if I can push start the car. I drove from CT to ME (8 hr drive) w/o any problems after push starting the car. The car doesn't "crank" just that wizzing noise.

I called the Acura dealer and a local shop and they both think that the teeth on the flywheel are gone. I am going to pull the starter again and get a good look at the teeth. So can anyone recommend a good lightend flywheel and clutch?

test what i was saying about taking off OIL cap and see if your Cams are spinning while trying to crank the engine with the starter.

What he's saying is its a whirring noise, not the engine turning over. The starter is not spinning the flywheel for some reason, theres your problem. Its more than likely the flywheel, if 2 different starters did the same thing. Unless you're really unlucky and got a different starter with the same problem as the last one.
