Default Installing cam seal.

It seems pretty straight foward... but does anyone have a write up on how to replace the cam seal? It looks like I just have to remove the valve cover and pop the old cam seal out and stick the new one in... I also have a new valve cover gasket so I can replace the old one while I have the valve cover off.

Umm.. you also have to take the cam gear off so that means you have to take the timing belt off the cam gears. You can't just push it on it has to go on centered as well.

How do you expect to change a cam seal without taking the cam gear off? And in order to take the cam gear off the t-belt has to come off (not off entirely, just off the cam gears). Or are you talking about the cam PLUG?

PLUG and SEAL are two different things.

This is a common problem when discussing cam plugs and seals. Alot of people call the cam plug a cam seal, even aftermarket companies. His thread title was asked in the singular, so I assumed it was the plug and not the seals (plural). Altho, someone could replace one cam seal instead of both, not recommended.

I think your the only one talking about a cam seal and not a cam plug, even tho he asked how to install a cam seal when he meant to ask about a cam plug. Props to you Rik for knowing the difference, lol.

ya cam seals and plug are two different things. Im guessing he wants to replace the cam plug. but like the OP said its straight forward. take the valve cover off, pop out the old cam plug clean the spot, place some hondabond and then put the new cam plug in

Actually, you don't just take the valve cover off and pop the plug out, you have to take the #6 cam holder off.

well ya since it would be holding the cam plug in, forgot to mention that step, but it would be pretty obvious if you that far into the process of replacing it.

would anyone happen to know the torque spec on the #6 cam holder for the plug (B18B1).. i've checked the book on it, but it doesn't really address many specs, more or less how to take everything off...

ok. so basically I remove the valve cover, and the #6 cam holder and then the cam plug should pop off right? then use a little hondabond on the cam plug install it and torque the #6 cam holder back to the factory spec of 7lbs/ft and then replace the valve cover gasket and use hondabond on that and bolt the valve cover back on right? also is there any order that the bolts for the #6 cam holder need to be in to be tightened? or can I just torque it down to the proper spec? I know the valve cover has a certain order and I think I saw a diagram with the order that the bolts need to be tightened on the team-integra forums.

Is there an order that the #6 cam holder bolts need to be tightened in? I know the valve cover needs to be tightened in a certain order but I got the diagram for that from team-integra.

Its only 7 lbs of torque, if you tap the top of the cam holder so that it is seated flush, then lightly torque each bolt, then torque to spec, your golden. If you ever don't know the torque sequence, just use several steps in torquing. When removing an item, begin with the outside bolts alternating sides working towards the center. When installing, begin with the inside bolts, alternating sides working towards the outside. I would always find the exact sequence for the head, whether installing or removing, but it does follow the same general guideline.

Well, the cam seals actually go onto the cams themselves right behind the cam gears and look like this.

The cam plug/seal is on the other end of the exhaust cam and not physically attached to it. If you follow this link, you will see a Blox cam plug/seal.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW
You can actually see the cam plug on the LS engines when you pop the hood. They are just across from the distributor where the exhaust cam would be under the valve cover. On VTEC models, the cam plugs are hidden behind the VTEC solenoid in the same spot as the LS models.

The cam seals on the other hand are behind the cam gears, behind the valve cover and are unseen.
