Default Tial wastegate wont sit flush on the flange.

I noticed my tial wastegate had been leaking a little bit, so i took it off (was assembled when I got the car), and noticed that there is a ring around the opening on the bottom of the wastegate. The ring is abuot 1/4" wide or wider, and goes all the way around the opening, but it sticks out about 1/16" from the bottom. Is it supposed to do that? IF so, can I just machine a bit out of my flange on the manifold so it'll sit flush and not leak? Thanks!

flip the ring over... you installed it backwards... it might be hard to get to fit at first, but tap it in gently with something like a screwdriver handle

The ring should stick out the bottom just a hair... so when you tighten the wastegate to the flange it puts pressure on the ring and creates a good seal...

It shouldn't be sticking out that far though, I think wantboost is right, the ring is installed upside down...

I figured it out, thanks for the help guys. I took it off, and it was installed correctly in the first place, when I put it back in, it looked as if it seated in a bit better, then when I tightened the flange back down, the gap was gone. No more leak, thus far.

The flange is probably warped. Try stacking a few gaskets or milling it down.
