Default some IMPORTANT questions to DRAG III users

My setup: JE pro series 9:1 on type-R engine, Haltech E6K equipped

On which rpm does the turbo begin to make boost and where make it full boost.
How long takes to make boost when you jump on the throttle above 4500rpm.
Daily driveability.

IS THE DRAG III only powerful on the streight and sucks on curvy roads? Hell, I like our curvy "non-straight" roads and I´m not a slow curve driver. How does the Turbo affect to drive fast curve speed since I don´t want to go on and off the throttle all the time. You know what I mean? Is´nt a T04/3 Turbo a realy big one? Woulda T25 or 38 be a better choice? Or does the Honda engine like bigger turbos than Audi, VW, etc...cause they have so much airflow and the rpm band is so long (up to 8500) and therefore a smal turbo like used in Vw´s is to small to make power above 6000prm

What benefit do I have from a ball bearing turbo?

How much psi is safe and possible with 9:1 cr

Yes, answer my q´s please. Thanks!

I'm not as qualified as some of the other people oin this board to answer your other questions but what I do know for sure is that a ball-bearing turbo spools considerable faster than a standard one. Its been a common thought that its worth the extra $500 or so to get the ball bearing upgrade in the Drag kits.

Christian I think you would be very happy with a Drag 3 kit. Boost comes on fast and is easy to control. It's very fun on curvy roads!

Above 4500rpm full boost occurs in about 1sec.

I have heard the opposite about BB upgrades, they only spool 500 rpm quicker (general rule of thumb)...so they realy arent worth it, that money could be put to better use elsewhere. However, 500 rpm COULD be the differnece b/w a win or a loss. As far as your concerns about curvy roads, the type of road you are driving on has no effect on the power output of your engine.......but you can have driveability problems when making too much power. You will be fine though running stock boost on the Drag kit. I hope this was of some help. Later!

I've heard ball bearing turbos are really rebuildable, or not worth it anyway. I'd save the $550 for other upgrades.

save the extra money for BB, you can do a whole lot more than a 500 rpm faster spool....

but onc eyou get used to it, boost is very controable..
I took curves at 60-80 on third or fourth gear boosting...

ny setup

GS-R, eibach pro-kit, tokico illuminas, set at 3 front 4 rear...
ITR sway bar , rear upper strut bar, I did have a front lower ite bar, I took it off, it's hard to clear DP
and ITR strut bar...

good luck

BTW: when you're downshifting, coming off a turn, your rpm is pretty hig, it'll be easy for the turbo to spool up....unlike from the line

Doesnt JoJo Callos not have a ball bearing on his 9 second civic? I am pretty sure he doesn't, so I think you can do just as much without the BB. 500 rpm sooner is what, half a second, maybe a little more? I guess it would be better technically, but is it really worth the money. And if you are not a good driver, that BB isnt going to do you any good. Just my opinion though

i think using 500rpms as a rule of thumb for all ball bearing turbo's isn't very accurate. After hearing some of the spool up times from members on this board, my turbo reaches full boost 1k rpms sooner then other drag 3 users. if you have a ballbearing t3/04e with the drag's b18 specs....expect positive pressure around 1700rpms and full boost just barely after 3k rpm.

WOW thats some spool up time!! Are you serious you hit full boost at 3k? this isn't at 4th or 5th gear is it?

lol, even better in 4th and 5th. But in my previous post I was referring to 2nd. Basically 2nd and 3rd spool up the same, 4th spools up by like 2800 and 5th, i dunno. I try not to hit full boost in 5th, because of how much strain it puts on the engine, but i'd guess maybe around 2600 or 2700.

i got the ball bearing in my turbo and i spool up at 3100 almost full boost by then. The BB is well worth the money, people just hear different , if you have used the BB then you will know that it makes a considerable difference.

Ok, when people say the bb turbo spools up faster, do they mean it spools up sooner in the rpm band, or faster? Like, will it spool up by 3k rpms instead of the normal turbo spooling at say 4k rpms? Or do people mean at like 4krpms, the bb turbo takes .5 seconds to spool up and the regular turbo takes 1 second to spool up?

I think the BB upgrade is worth it, although i dont have it.. Ball bearing, 3" exhaust, and a good boost controller and youll have boost fast as .. It would be really nice to reach positive pressure between 2k-3500 when just running around town, even if it is not full boost at least it will help with some torque in that area.. But for a drag car which launches in boost anyways who cares how fast it spools..

Drag III is perfect on curvy road, even drifting.
