Quest for 450whp B16.... HELP
Hi every1,
Im looking for 450whp-500whp on a b16.
I already made 318whp and 218wtq @ 12psi (1989 1st gen b16)
Just purchased another block to BUILD!
I had some blow by issues, so I was thinking of adding to ports to the front of the valve cover to help breathe attached to a catch can, then the rear one attached to a catch can as well.
Then I was thinking of a piston/rod set-up.
What brand? Crower rods? Eagle? Etc...
Stock compression Pistons : Which brand ?
Then I was thinking of acl race bearings? or brand new honda race bearings?
A cometic head gasket & arp head studs.
The turbo I would like to use is the one I used to make 318whp @ 12psi. ( T3/T4 TO4e .50/.57/.63 )
I plan on upgrading the downpipe to 3" ( currently 2.5" )
Also the charge piping I am running is super small ( going full 2.5" charge piping with 3" matched to my 3" tb )
Question is :
Will this be RELIABLE @ 450whp?
Should I just settle for 400whp?
I do NOT want to sleve the block at the moment... MIGHT consider a Block guard.
The head has skunk2 cams which are amazing on boost, and crower springs/retainers, blox manifold with port matched to blox tb.
I aiming for constant flat-low 11's 1/4 mile.
Also what should I run as a slick?
Currently running 22x8x15 MT
Should I go with a fatter slick in a smaller rim? like a 24x8x13?

you don't necessarily need 400 hp to go low 11's. what car is this in? do you know what it weighs?
i've gone 11.23 with a tad over 300 hp in a 2100 lb. car with me in it. and my short game sucks! 1.7 60 foots. i'm shootin for 400+ hp this year on my b16 and expect mid 10's.
stock sleeve 81.5mm
ss springs/retainers
stock valves
gsr cams
arp headstuds
oem headgasket
acl race bearings
wiseco 9:1 pistons
crower econo rods (same as eagle)
rev hard cast mani
stock im/tb
2.5" ic piping
ebay ic
t3/t04e 60 trim with .63 exhaust
2.5" exhaust
rc 750cc injectors
walbro 255
24.5x8x13 m&h slicks
new this year:
sc6262 turbo
ramhorn mani
skunk2 im and 68mm tb
3" exhaust
don't waste your money on the block guard. save up for the sleeved block someday. and i would look at 9:1 comp pistons, not stock comp. for 400 hp just about any brand of piston will do.

Re: Quest for 450whp B16.... HELP
Hi thanks for the replies.
The car is a 1994 honda civic si. Weight I believe is about 2300lbs no gas / no driver.
Im 220lbs so right there = 2520lbs + gas.
The turbo im using right now is a t3/t4 to4e .50 intake .63 exhaust side.
So will 450whp be safe with no block guard and not being sleeved? Just pistons/rods,bearings and arp head stud upgraded?

I hate how heavy si's are. you can make 450whp on stock block.but just like anything else its just a matter of time and how much stress till you could destroy the block. it might run rock solid for years if its well tuned and well maintainted. sleeves would be added security, but Iv seen fully built blocks blow too...
so I guess non of that info was useful. just saying take care of the motor and get a reputable tuner to tune it and it should be fine on stock sleeves. I would run less boost on the street (375whp with boost by gear is perfect for a street car) i would just turn up the boost to 450whp for the track for the longevity of the motor.
