Icon2 Preparing d16 for turbo

I have a y8 in my civic si , the last few months I've been piecing together a turbo kit , I have everything except a ecu , bov and downpipe. My motor has 320xxx kms but is still running fine , I'm only planning on running a small turbo on like 7 psi for Now , my goal is 200 whp. I was wondering how I should get my motor ready so I don't blow it up . And I'm on a budget , I was thinking cometic head gasket , apt studs and bolts , timing belt & water pump , turbo cams . This is my first turbo project any help is appriciated.

Im running 200ish hp in my zc with the stock head bolts, they are working just fine.

not sure what you have with your kit, but you def need a walboro 255 and bigger injectors. the dsm 440cc's are working fine for 10psi. dont mess around with cams.

If that was my motor, I would take it out, and do a small rebuild to get it fresh before forcing air into it. do rings and all the gaskets to make sure its going to last you for awhile. the waterpump/timing belt plug/wires cap/rotor.. all good things to have up to date.

also make sure you get a oil pressure gauge because ive had alot of probs with blowing oil past the seals on my turbo, the gauge is going to help alot to determine if and what restrictors you need to run.

make sure that you do alot of research on crankcase ventilation/catch cans as well. you can cause a **** ton of problems if your not venting your motor correctly.

and keep in mind you are making your once reliable honda into a possibilty for tons of problems. They arent meant for this, but -can- handle it just fine, you just need to keep up on everything, and check things constantly or you will fry something very quickly. I suggest having another car, so its easy to work on when needed.

i would just do oem head gasket and arp studs. new belt wouldn't hurt either.

check out the FI forum.. starting reading

1. check your compression and do a leak down test... (make sure the motor is healthy...)
2. Minimum headstuds, new OEM Head gasket (if #1 is good)
3. DSM 450's are a cost effective way to go, and max at approx 300hp... That's even pushing it.. for your goals they will be fine..
4. Don't worry about cams for your power goals... That's money that can be spent elsewhere.. (eg. doing a vitara bottom end from fjt)...
5. Get it tuned.
6. Have fun!

Ya I have rc 440s , going to get a gasket kit and new fuel pump. Does it really make it that unreliable ? The car is my daily driver and will continue to be , I don't want to be replacing parts daily but I will replace as needed. What would be a good choice for a ecu? I was thinking chrome pro

Your most important factor as far as reliability is to get a good tune....

As far as a tuning program, see who is in your area that is a reputable tuner, and talk to them.. they can tell you what options you have available to you..

Alright I'll ask around I guess . I'm probally gonna sound stupid but could I drive my car to get tuned once the turbo is installed ?

yeah you can take your ecu to the tuner and have the load a basemap so you can drive it (in vacuum) to get it tuned on the dyno. and the old saying thrown around is
fast
cheap
reliable
pick 2 and the third is what its not.

my experiences so far is that the likely hood of your car being down for acouple days + is alot higher when you start adding boost to a motor. you should always be prepared for that.
