Is This Old Log Manifold Good to Use?
Hi all!
After a month of waiting and constant delays from FedEx, I finally got this in the mail: a new old stock Turbonetics log manifold for the B series. T3 flange and designed to use a 38mm wastegate. I can't find any other examples or documents about this particular manifold design online so I assume its rare. Despite the less than ideal wastegate placement its perfect for my plans and I'm pretty happy with having an old school part. The only thing I've found is that there are holes that lead into the inside of the manifold through two of the mounting stud inserts for the turbo (see pictures) Will this be an issue for me in the future? I'm not sure if things like this will lead to cracks to develop or something else bad. Also, the opening for the wastegate isn't a clean/perfect circle, so should I go through the trouble of cleaning it up or will it work as is? Thanks!

Nice score. I'm sure it will work fine - I wouldn't worry about it cracking, most cast manifolds are pretty strong. The threaded holes breaking through into the inside of the manifold are no big deal. The wastegate opening on my cast manifold wasn't as bad as yours, but wasn't round either. I traced the inside of my wastegate's flange onto my manifold and hand ported it with a dremel and carbide burr to be round. Honestly it probably won't matter, but it bothered me so I fixed it.

I miss the days of the drag gen 3 manifold. Loved the sound the wastegate made when it opened up, haha.
Wont make the most power but its a simple piece and youll have no issues using it.

I was actually considering trying to piece together an old Drag turbo kit, crappy Deltagate, FMU and all... I just really admire all the old school stuff even if it wasn't the best. And simplicity is what I'm going for! I'm collecting parts over time but my end goal is 250 or less to the wheels on my stock B18C1. It should be more than enough fun and usable power on the street.

I like retro stuff too but dont use an FMU!.
Ask shodan or Greg for a t3 stg 3 t04e / 50trim for true oldschoolness.
The manifold will work fine. Just take it as it is and dont aim for 500whp with it.

Thanks for your input once again TheShodan! I'm curious as to why that particular housing has to be used. Is it because it's small enough to be used with my manifold without having to notch the block? I was planning on just buying a Treadstone turbo kit (they still have some apparently) with a Turbonetics T04E 50 trim and was hoping that turbo would bolt on with no issues. If that isn't the case, though, I may have to hit you up in the future...

...I'll have to hit you up in the future for sure! I'm in no rush to turbo my car since I gotta put my money towards fixing other issues it has, but hopefully nobody buys that stuff off you by the time I'm ready Let me guess, it also has the Blitz blow off valve, piping/couplers and Spearco intercooler?

Twin HKS Super Sequential blow off valves and yes, a very large Spearco intercooler!
