Intercooler. I need one back door, one side outlet. Not common??

Intercooler. I need one back door, one side outlet. Not common??
Im on the hunt for an intercooler, kind of an odd size I guess because Im having no luck with options on ebay or the standard turbo parts websites.
I need the hot side of the intercooler to be a backdoor style, and the cold side to be a standard out the side style.
Im hoping to find something to support 350whp, so around 30 X 8 X 3 with 2.5" in and out would be perfect, but Im flexible on that, Id love to keep it long and short though, dont want a tall SOB so I have to remove everything up front
Am I being to picky??
I would love a 36" long core to fill my entire bumper opening, but that doesnt seem to be an option
How would you guys get around this problem on a budget?? I could run a standard side exit on both sides, but my charge piping will be a lot bigger, and possibly have to relocate or ditch my washer resevoir bottle

You increase the budget.
1) Give Greg at Go-Autowerks a call, and get your intercooler with the tanks through him.
2) Get your cast endtanks independently, like from ATP Turbo
I.E.
Then get your intercooler and a welder to do take care of you.

Very surprised there isnt a single version on ebay of the "cheaper" kind with a single backdoor entry
I live in a town of 500 people, Id be surprised if I could find a welder locally, let alone one Id trust to weld aluminum intercooler endtanks
I can run a regular style intercooler, but I will be adding a 90 degree and a 180 degree to the hotside piping, with the backdoor hotside, I can have less than 10" of hot side piping and just one coupler on the hot side (turbo compressor outlet is flanged)
Thanks for your help as always Shodan

I forgot about option 3, but that requires you to use a Garrett core like option one, and that is again getting endtanks prefabbed through my guys at Turbo Elements.
Time to start calling around, especially choice #1, and since you're in a small area with no resources, prepare to actually start paying for something

^^Normally I would agree. But..
1) He's looking at eBay solutions.. not real ones,
2) This is an exact example of what I stated similarly in point 1) except using Brad instead of Greg.
3) It requires a Garrett core which goes back to point 1) in this response.

Re: Intercooler. I need one back door, one side outlet. Not common??
Not to mention that core is for 700+ according to there site and Id need to completely remove my front support and do alot of trimming to fit that width
Do you think the +$200 or so cost of the custom intercooler and having a short hot side, outweighs just using a regular intercooler and having a few bends on the hot side. I already have ample 2.5" piping
I just thought the very short hot side, even if a sharp 90 degree bend from the backdoor, would be beneficial.
This is for a daily driver 300whp setup

Re: Intercooler. I need one back door, one side outlet. Not common??
For 300whp, it really doesn't matter. The shorter piping arena works more to the advantage of fitment and placement in relation to the exhaust manifold used. 2.5" piping is more than enough to over 650whp, so I wouldn't really stress it. I'd look more to the type of intercooler you're using more than any endtanks. Special endtanks are no good if the entire core is rather inefficient in design and sh!tty for practical use or can't take street abuse. I'd honestly hold your money for a better intercooler like a Bell or Garrett and keep the design simple over all this backdoor stuff. Especially if you want to keep your radiator support.
Case in point:
Garrett core, keeps radiator support, can efficiently support over 450whp
Total deminsions 30x8x3.5
Core 18x8x3.5
Those are close to $500. It takes money to make those fit.
IF, however you're still trying to be on the cheap, forget the backdoor. period.

Thanks, yes I am definetely on a college kid budget.
It looks like I may just run a regular style intercoolr and offset it over to the passenger side. and a run a 90 degree coupler off the hot side. Poor mans back door
Will look a bit silly offset on the grill Im sure but it will be black anyways. Not a fan of how much that is going to block the radiator though

Here's the best pics I had of my setup with the custom intercooler.
It didnt look too goofy with the bumper on either.

This is a bit ghetto but I've seen it work.
Get your ebay intercooler of choice
Cut the inlet off
Cut hole in the end tank to make it a backdoor
Weld inlet on
Weld hole closed where inlet use to be
Done

1) 36" core isn't going to happen. The pressure drop over that long of a core would be insane, plus you are defeating the point of a backdoor. You'd be backdooring right into the frame rail.
2) If you want to stay cheap, just get your favorite ebay core and have someone modify the endtank to be a backdoor. Used to do it all the time, doesn't take more than an hour or so to do it right.

I slightly changed my mind to just going with a regular style, but I see you write that a long intercool has alot of pressure drop??
To fit in the grill of my crx, which has a 36" wide by 6" tall opening. I was hoping to fill most of that with black intercooler. Do the longer intercoolers lose more pressure? Never heard of that

Re: Intercooler. I need one back door, one side outlet. Not common??
I had to use a back door with my setup this year and didnt feel like spending $500 bucks on an intercooler. So I took my $100 eBay intercooler (31x12x3 with 24" core) and bought the ATP turbo end tank and had it welded on. For a grand total of $200 spent. (Intercooler, end tank, labor) Works fine. I can't really say anything bad about eBay intercooler...my car made 560, buddys car made 750. I couldn't bring myself to spend a lot on an intercooler. But that's just me.
Here's the best pics I had of my setup with the custom intercooler.

Re: Intercooler. I need one back door, one side outlet. Not common??
I had to chop, cut, and weld my endtank together, to get what I wanted. I couldn't find one like this for the life of me. But ATPTurbo has some good options.
I used this. I just had to cut and shorten it a bit.
http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...egory_Code=INT
It ended up like this. If I were to have paid for it, there was about an hour and a half of welding, so maybe a 100 bucks to have done.

I'm not sure on the dimensions, but there was a single-backdoor IC for sale in the Marketplace a few days ago...they're not that terribly uncommon
