with an internally stock engine, you'd be good at 12lbs with EXCELLENT tuning

How can you tell him that when you have no idea what his setup is going to be?? Excellant tuning or not if he has a high compression motor then high boost is asking for a blown moter

Just so you know, how much boost is irrelevant, its how much hp that boost is making. So the real question is how much hp can an ls/vtec handle. I'm not very familiar with those setups with boost so I can't be of much help. But I would think having a straight gsr would be a better way to go but we all know thats $$$.

This is a question no one can really answer. It really depends on his setup like what was said above. If he was running a T3 turbo then he could run about 10-12......If it was a T4 series turbo then it would be about 7-8. This is my way of seeing the stock motor take it with tuning.!

the title stated a stock ls/vtec engine....you guys are right in what you say about "how much boost" and what the "setup" will be, but putting a t4 on an internally stock ls/vtec engine yells out trouble anyhow. I was thinking along the lines of a basic bolt on kit, like a drag or something that is more consumer freindly.....

I say you spec out a turbo, peice it together, or buy a kit. Install that. Find an engine management system that your local tuner is familiar with and have him tune it. Then you'll know how much boost with your turbo setup your stock ls/vtec can take.

the drag kit comes with a t3/t4 turbo...you're right, and not a (T4).....those kits are regulated anywhere between 8-12 psi unless you upgrade the wastegate....(i happen to sell these kits) If, he decides to go with a custom set-up with a t4 and stock internals, he'd be looking for trouble. I was just trying to let you know that i assumed that he, like 80% of sport compact consumers, would likely buy a bolt on kit, like the drag that comes with a t3/t4 turbo and is regluated at low boost.
