garrett has made some for the aftermarket scene. its old stuff, depending on the size turbo you buy you dont even need to run a wastegate anymore. basically it adjusts so you can have quick boost on the low end and it'll open up when you get in the high rpm's.

that looks like the turbos that are in the new ford 6 liter diesels ford calls it vgt (variable geometry turbo) having problems with them the fins are sticking and also garret makes them

Its amazing! Ive driven one of the new turbos and its sick. Tried to price one out but the parts dept. doesnt have it in there system yet...

Imagine...Built B18C reaching peak torque @ 2-3k and carrying it to or near redline! Makes me smile!

since when does a built b18c have torque? yeah the acura rdx has a similar turbo design i believe i forgot what they call it variable something.

From what ive been told, the EGT's from gasoline engines were too high for the materials in the VGT to hold up.Supposedly as technology is advancing, they have gotten it to work...
Chrysler used this type of turbo way back in the day, but were unsuccessful in perfecting it. I believe Borg Warner is now producing the turbos for Porsche.
On the 911, there is no wastegate. Boost is regulated by controlling the exhaust fins...
I suppose since the 3.6L can make 500 ft/lbs below 2k, a 1.8L could (theoretically) make ~250 ft/lbs at about the same rpm range
WHP on the 911 turbo is probably around the 400 range. Theyre rated @ 470(ish)crank hp but theyre also AWD...

I have also looked into these...the ones that are readily available (old turbo dodges) are too small so it doesnt really "shine" and aparantly the design was never perfected. hopefully someday we will figure out a way to eliminate lag. good to see advances being made. that porsche is SICK too

yeah.. like i said the new turbo honda's have them. but instead of moving the exhaust side, they move the cold side so it doesnt break down with heat.

its the turbine side that changes the flow not the compressor

ahhh sorry not spreading gossip. i remember somebody doing the cold side and when i read that article they it said "develop an entirely new turbocharger w/ aishin". VNT's are nothing new so i thought it was honda that did the cold side. nontheless, there is a company using the cold side
