120k miles to high to turbo?
Hi guys, i might but a b16a with tranny but the ****** has 120k on the clock. i am buying this motor with the intention of turboing it within six months after i get it Bar'd. is this too many miles to turbo? or are there a few things i can change while the motor is out to make it pretty reliable without doing internals? headstuds, headgasket maybe? i am looking for reliablilty since this is my dd. looking to make around 260 whp. price of the motor is 1k without ecu, axels, or harness from a 00 si, is this still a good deal?

That price seems to be ok, 120k is a lot of miles expecially if the previous owner beat the **** out of it.
But as for your question about doing a couple things before throwing it in i would change the water pump/oil pump, timing belt, and if you decide to pull the head, do the headgasket and for ***** and insurance do headstuds.
Oh and throw in a clutch and flywheel while your at it.
As for your goals 260 can be easily hit if the motor is healthy.........

Perform a Leakdown/Compression test and see if everything is if everything is where it should be or whatever you think is acceptable. If a recent tune up hasn't been done (like timing belt/water pump), do so. I have 150k on my motor...boosted at 130k...
As for the motor, I think the deal is fair.

mileage is fine.. Im up over that and my motor has seen better days.
Its in the tune buddy, get it tuned properly and a conservative tune will make you 260whp on less then 10psi depending on your setup.
Just do a leakdown before you purchase the motor, this will be your strongest indicator on its health.. Motors with 150+k could be healthier then motors with 40k its all in their history!

I have seen it done but really wasnt paying much attention, you need to find a way to not only stimulate the crank but also the oil pump......i'll ask my buddy who did it.

You do realize that the motor really has no way to get oil pressure when doing that??? unless all the belts are on which i doupt

Not sure why the accessory belts would need to be on there? As long as the timing belt is there you should be fine and this is something you might want to do before purchasing

should be fine, a buddy of mine put nitrous on his 170,000+ B18B, then eventually took the spray off and put a turbo kit on it and it stayed strong. Like others have said, it's all in the tune. But just be safe and do a few tests before hand
