How many miles?
i kno there are alotta pple out there with higher mileage motors that still run turbo, and i was just wondering if there's any minimum or maximum amt of miles by which i should decide whether to turbo an engine or not. i have 81K rite now, if compression and everything looks fine, should it be ok to turb with low boost (5-8 psi)? my tranny went out and i have a new one along with a new clutch coming in and i think if my motor can handle it, i'm ready to start boostin. thanks
if your compression numbers look good, and there is nothing majorly wrong(like a huge oil leak) then go ahead.
I turboed my LS at 115K miles. My motor crapped out at 118K miles due to my own fault though. You should be fine if your motor numbers look good.
With high mileage engines its all about maitenance. Get it, do a timing belt, replace plugs, wires, rotor, and cap, anything thats leaking, fuel filter, and do an oil change. and make sure you have good compression and leakdown numbers. Sometimes mileage doesnt tell the whole story of an engine in terms of wear and power. its all about maitenance.
