Anyone replace just the cage floor plates?
Kind of an odd question but does anyone know of an instance where just the floor plates were replaced? The reason I am asking is that a few years back I had an 8 point chromoly cage put in and where the rear down bars meet the trunk pan they are not attached to a 6x6x.125 plate. Rather they are welded to an undersized form fitted piece that follows the trunk profile. I haven't pulled up the carpet to check yet but I suspect that the 2 angled bars behind the seats that go from the main hoop to the tunnel have undersized plates as well. I am in the process of getting my car SFI up to date and am stuck on what to do. My thinking is, cut the bars as close to the current plates as possible and once done slip/force the correctly sized 6x6x.125 plates under the bars and over the existing plates, reweld and done. Does this sound like a viable plan or just a bad idea? I REALLY don't want to have to cut out a perfectly good cage to correct these problems. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Interesting. Would you happen to know where I can find the boxing requirements? I dont recall seeing anything entioned in the NHRA rule book. I'll go back and reread. Thanks for the idea.
