Default viper 5900 on 08 civic

im thinking of installing the viper 5900 alarm system from best buy on my 08 civic ex-l auto. i spoke to the the guy at the installation dept. he told me that i would need the remote start bypass for 80, and the labor for it is 20. if i want to use the viper remote to pop the trunk, the relay is 17 and the labor is 10 (or the other way around). the system itself is 500 + tax. he said it would take approx 6-7 hours since the newer vehicle is much more complicated.

any inputs?

Sounds like you went to a big box store... Average pricing for that kind of place...

You may be able to shop around, but prices are going to be pretty similar...

Or, the other option is to buy the alarm and install it yourself, using one of the well writend threads as a guide...

That sounds about right for best buy pricing. You might be able to find a local place that will do a better job. Check DEI's website for authorized dealers in your area.

Check this out. I just ordered mine last week and I got my Batt. Back up siren NEW off ebay for 10.00 shipped. Look on line for your bypass... This alarm is the Clifford Version of the Viper 5900... I was an installer for 3+ year for Ultimate Electronics and our discount price was well over this price... Can't beat it and not too bad to install yourself. 08 civic is a little tricky, but not too bad!

You lose out on the warranty and tech support. But if it is a gamble you are willing to take to save some money that is up to you. I guess I will see what the outcome is for my unit in the months/years to come...

Yes, he is BSing you, if not purchased at an authorized DEI dealer, there is no manufacturers warranty period, the same goes for most, if not all, other manufacturers, Compustar does not even allow online purchasing....

Internet Sales Policy

With the current acceleration of online purchasing from privately owned websites, and websites such as eBay, we realize the temptation to make your Compustar purchase an online transaction. However, in an effort to ensure that our customers receive quality product and service, Firstech, LLC. does not condone or support Internet sales of any kind.

Firstech, LLC. will not offer warranty service or tech-support for online purchases. This is simply because the history of the product is unknown and we cannot guarantee its quality. The product may be missing parts, it could be used, or even damaged. In addition, if the product is not installed at one of our authorized installation locations, the quality of the install is questionable, and could damage the system or even your vehicle.

When you have your Compustar system purchased and installed at an authorized dealer, you will receive the full lifetime manufacturer’s warranty on the system as well as the authorized dealer’s guarantee on the installation. Firstech, LLC. has no control over the policies and procedures of the authorized dealers. Please check with your dealer for more information on the installation guarantee.

So "buyer beware" 94
