Default Home Stereo Speakers!! In a Car? Do they just hook up?

My buddies planning on having a little party out in the middle of knowwhere, camping out for the night. He doesnt know what to do for speakers

Ive got some JVC home stereo unit thing, 5 cd changer and 300 watts or something, but its fairly loud. I was hoping that you could simply run speaker wire from the deck to the ho,me stereo speakers

?????

Most seem to have only a red and black wire that goes into the speaerk

Will it work just fine? All models?

Rather than cut into your car stereo, I would just get a power inverter and bring the entire home stereo with you.

Ever hear of a boom box?

I agree with suspendedHatch Get an inverter, something like this... http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2300-4...wItem make sure it is big enough, [watts] to run Battlestar Galactica there, plug it into the car/truck your taking out to the middle of "knowwhere" plug BG into the inverter and try it out, then play the same tunes on the car/truck system use what sounds the best.

Now before you go out and spend $$$ on an inverter get an extention coard and take BG out into the open, on the roof of the car/truck, do the same test, if you think BG sounds better then the car/truck system, then go and get the inverter.

The short answer would be....
Although connecting "home" speakers to a car audio system is simple enough, the speakers are probably 8 ohm maybe even 16 ohm, [or not] and output from a cars sytem would be 50% or less. 94

If you use an amp you will definitely have more output.

And what is rated at 460W, the BG?
Take my word for it the only way that system is going to make 460W is WSBL, and its "rated" output wattage has little to do with the speakers continuous power handling, [RMS].

My suggestion is the same, hook it up and see/hear what sounds the best and use that.

Here is another suggestion, whatever you end up with, bring along a spare fully charged batt. and a set of jumper cables. 94

So I can just simply, unplug my rear speakers and plug in the new speaker box (which has 3 speakers) and it should work without causing a fire?

Nothing bads gonna happen?

Or will that not work and just start wiring up my clarion amp

you can, but it might not be that loud. it depends on your head unit. it definitely wont burst into flames lol, so give it a go and see.

Ditto the above, no flames.
As I said, the only problem may be the speakers impedance, if it is higher then the 4 ohm car speakers, the output will be limited, every time you double the impedance, EG; 4 ohm to 8 ohm, you cut amp output by 50%, [yes even the HUs internal amp], and adding the Clarion amp will help a lot.
With the HU you are starting with maybe 15W-20W of RMS power into 4 ohms, if the BG speakers are 8 ohm the output of HU will be 7.5W-10W of RMS power into 8 ohms, the result is the same with the amp, but you will be starting at a much higher RMS wattage.
So hook them up and see/hear what they sound like, again do this in the open, not in a shop or garage. 94

inverter is the way to go.....home speakers are 8 ohm and car speakers a 4 ohm...sooo home speakers are 1/2 as loud (take twice to pwr)

sure you can.

years ago when i first got my car, i only had money left over for a cd player, so i connected my home speakers (it was a passive subwoofer) to the rears. it sounded pretty damn loud with with the 14 or so watts the deck put out.

it was ghetto and but it worked great.
