So wild that the spoiler came back to you after all of that time. The OG Benen stuff was super cool and well made. Neat piece of tuner history. Would love to find a trunk bar and strong bar to add to my collection even though I'd likely end up never using them.

Agreed, I honestly dont know how often Ill put the spoiler on. The eg6 spoiler looks great and swapping them out gives anxiety lol so I am with you on having them for nostalgia. I hate that Benen turned into more of a mass production. I would stil like to get an ECU cover and header heatshield and some bars but I dont have any emotional attachment since I never ran them back in the day. If I see any pop up I will give you a shout!

That's awesome that you got your duckbill back. I still have a JHP carbon fiber duckbill in my closet which I would have purchased in the '01 or '02 time frame. The quality of that thing left a lot to be desired. I remember drooling over the Benen spoiler.

Nothing really new to report regarding car updates, but I decided to enter a JDM manufacturer specific show called JDM Legends at VIR a few weekends back that was held during an SCCA event. Driver Motorsports is an importer in VA that hosted it and there was a really nice turn out and some great builds. I washed the car and cleaned the bay (hasnt been washed since before my tail of the dragon trip in Oct) and made the trip up. My buddy Vila rode with me since his trans top Del Sol wasnt ready. Weather was chilly but decent and we had a blast with another buddy that met us. I ended up throwing the se37k back on so I could get a few pics from other people since I generally dislike most I take.
Judges announced top 25 and I was happy to hear I made the cut. I was hoping to win best Honda since that was a category and also had a nice prize (this is the first show Ive entered that had prizes beyond a trophy). They had all judges then rescore the top 25 for winners of categories and overall winners. I was super stoked when they announced I had won best Honda! I was more than content considering that was what I hoped for. I won a PRP $500 gift certificate and HP Academy Platinum VIP package which include online training courses for many things. I am excited to dig into this after talking to a few friends who are familiar with the courses, should learn some stuff! So all the specific vehicle make awards were done and I wasnt expecting anything else so I was extremely surprised to take best of show/1st overall of the show. Second place was a completely restored Datsun with triple webers and a rocket bunny kit, super rad car. Third was a MKIV Supra in Top Secret gold. You can imagine my shock considering the competition! I ended up winning another set of Fortune Auto 500 series coilovers and probably the coolest trophy Ive ever seen as well. It was a fun day, definitely will try and make it back out to the next one. It was nice watching some racing and hanging at the track, I cant stand being inside for a show for 6-8 hours. Always one of my favorites and a tough one to find in decent condition. Im sure youre kicking yourself for selling, I know the feeling haha.
Again nothing spectacular to report. Just a few things I am trying to finish up before I start any new "projects" with the car and a bay pic with the new black radiator setup. This is kind of a list in writing for myself and hoping itll motivate me to get some momentum.
My NR10R's restoration is finished and I am hoping to see them back in a week or two. I have not seen the final product as they are currently in Phoenix for the work. I have a set 205/50 Yokohama Advan A052r waiting along with some chrome Mugen lug nuts. lip and barrel stickers are being made by MRM decals. P
My RSZ-R are still at my local refinish spot...unsure of an ETA on them at this point but hopefully will be ready in the next few months. I have a set of 205/50 Bridgestone RE71RS waiting to throw on and also have stickers coming from MRM
AC installation will be finished up soon, shooting to add oil and install the tensioner and belt this weekend so it will be ready for the recharge before it gets stupid hot out
Power steering is going back in. Ive had arthritis since I was a kid and in the past few years I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis on top of it. Driving the car spirited on the dragon and also three point turning in and out of my storage unit is a pain in the *** for me at times. I have a new OEM reman PS pump ready to go along with brackets. Still need to grab a reman integra rack (shorter turn ratio) and planning to run the Chasebays PS kit. I really like the look and routing of the AN lines compared to OEM in this instance. The reservoir is black so it also will flow well with my bay IMO vs the OEM opaque white/yellowed one.
I refinished an OEM fuel filter bracket to run a stock fuel filter. I went with a 94-95 filter so that there is a bottom feed and top exit (92-93 are top feed and exit). I have -6 black AN line and fittings to make lines from the hardline to filter and filter to rail. The car has had an inline -6 filter setup with the "coin" filter. I have not had any issues with these and I clean it once a year, but I have never been happy with the lines (ill try and get pics when I do this).
Less exciting/back burner things:
repaint front bumper (again) + PPF - hoping to find a second bumper to get 2 painted at once
remove hood latch and pull broken bolt + re tap threads - been like this since I got it but now im nit picking
spray 10mm bolts re81 and install on inner fender mounts - has had silver allen head/beauty washers since I have had it and its not my thing
buy a matching driver side R-Axle
I recently switched over to a new CSF radiator setup - dont mind the dried coolant on the fan etc, promise I cleaned it up lol. It came with a 900cfm SPAL fan and shroud and multiple fittings as it can be ran on an EVO and or with -16 AN. Its a very nice kit but make sure you have a large aluminum friendly wrench for the hose fittings. We got a couple small marks on it that needs some touch up but not too bad. While I had it in my friends shop we went ahead and installed the passenger side R-Axle that I found for a steal in the classifieds on here (people sleep on them). I ended up paying $200 shipped and they are about $415 each now from R-Axle. The axle I had installed about a year and a half ago had a vibration from brand new. Complete night and day difference after swapping to the R-Axle. They are all new components, USA built with road race grease and vibration damper rings.

That CSF radiator looks just as thick if not a little more than my Go Autoworks triple core. I doubt you'll have cooling issues regardless but it looks like you have room for the 12" 1300CFM Spal if ever needed.
I recently ordered a Koyo HH series dual core for the exact purpose of getting a thinner radiator for fitment reasons. I almost went with the CSF because I have no doubt it's one of the nicest and best cooling dual cores available for our chassis, but after seeing your picture I'm glad I didn't (just for what I mentioned above). The Koyo should be 1.9" thick at the core, it looks like yours is closer to 2.25" or so and I'm guessing your end tanks are around 2.5".

It sounds like you made a good choice on the Koyo as well for the space concerns as this one definitely is a bit thicker than what I pulled (cant recall which half size it is but they changed the top end tank design on newer ones). Unless you have something extreme I wouldnt expect any issues with that quality rad. The CSF is definitely a unit, I believe around 9 quart capacity. Ive never had overheating issues (knock on wood) and the change was purely for the cosmetics and the fan upgrade was a plus. The mishimoto shroud and fan package) which did an excellent job with the Koyo rad.

Couple of small updates again. I was able to knock out a few items on the list and a couple other small things.
Had Gary Essick extract the broken bolt on the hood latch while it was there for the AC. Installed 3 new bolts. Whoever put the latch on before I picked this thing up put them on way too tight. The other two nearly broke coming out but got lucky.
I also was able to spray some 10mm bolts R81 for the hood hinges and my rear fender bolts at the pillar and bottom of the door. I was tired of seeing the cheap hex bolt with washers when the door was open
I FINALLY GOT THE AC CHARGED AND WORKING - big one for me, especially now that we are in the part of summer that I normally wouldnt drive the car due to the heat. I took the car to my buddys shop (Gary Essick Imports) over the weekend before the 4th of July. We threw some oil in and one can of R12. His head tech wanted to circulate it in the system before throwing in the rest of the freon, but we could not get the compressor clutch to engage via the climate control AC button. After some wire tracing he found that there was power to the clutch, but no signal for it to turn on. We stopped at that point due to the time of day and the fact that some diag would be needed. I took a loaner accord home so they could keep the car and work on it at their convenience (they were closed during the week for the holiday but doing some sidework). That Monday I get the heads up that the car is done and AC is working. What I had suspected was the cause ended up being the issue - the car has a Race Spec (brand but also accurate description) harness and it had not been pinned for AC. He ran a 2 wire jumper using OEM wire colors and got it handled.
Gary dropped the car back off and the AC felt decent, but not quite what I had expected. I drove around a bit and was getting 58-61 at the vent with 85-90* ambient (high humidity). I know these cars were known for mediocre AC but I felt I was missing something. The entire week I would take it out and check vent temps vs ambient to see if that was just as good as it would get or if something was not working correctly. I drove home from dinner one evening and noticed it was 74* outside and I still only got 58* on the vent so I assumed something was not working correctly. I had a hunch and was planning to work on the car that weekend anyway. I replaced my EDM center console with another in slightly better shape that my Europe contact had. While I had the console out I checked the cable that is operated by the climate control temperature slide siwtch to see if it had bound up. I found what I was looking for and it seems that the heater valve was not closing completely and I was getting about maybe 10-15% heater air in the system even with the ac at max and temp set completely low. I made a couple small adjustments on the cable and was able to get it fully closed with the slide on the climate control. It dropped over 15* instantly! After that I spent another couple hours cleaning the old foam off the vent surrounds and the air "junction box" behind the two center vents. I have some CCF (closed cell foam) with adhesive backing that I have used for decoupling panels to prevent buzz etc and audio installs. I cut this into thin strips and resealed all the vents. After that it managed to get all the way down to 39* at the vent when it was 88* outside, with the car idling over an hour in place. Ill take that any day in a 32 year old civic! I have driven it multiple times in the heat of the day and I find myself backing it down to 2 or 3 because of how great its working. Couldnt be happier with it! The next item may be some ceramic UV window film to keep it cooler and save my already fading interior
a can of the good stuff and the mandatory temp gauge shot once it was all sorted
Another small project I started was updating/upgrading the audio system in the hatch. I have had a Pioneer media receiver in the dash for 5+ years now and it recently started giving bluetooth connectivity issues. Pioneer has since released quite a few units and I found a suitable one for my immediate plans and ended up with model MVH-S522BS https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/P...ers/MVH-S522BS This unit is cheap and makes it easy to use your phone as a source with their smart sync app. Additionally it provides a 31 band eq and time alignment to dial in a nice sound and stage. (no pics but it is mounted in the glovebox like the original unit)
The car has had a few sets of door speakers. I had some inexpensive pioneers originally that did the job, but one got very scratchy and took a ****. I ended up with a used set of JBL to hold me over and they were pretty decent but I ended up (for now) with a pair of Audiofrog GS62 https://www.audiofrog.com/gs62-6-165...e-loudspeaker/ for a few reasons. They are pretty shallow with a basket that requires minimum modification to fit on the factory speaker mount (they provide an adapter ring) but you will also need to trim the housing, which is typical for any speaker worth installing. They are a coaxial so they have advantages and drawbacks but it makes for an easy install without having to worry about mounting tweeters (I will likely go this route in the next iteration with even nicer components)
I previously had put some sound deadening on the door inner sheetmetal with spare/leftover CLD tiles from a previous car. I decided I wanted to do a better and more thorough job while I was updating everything else. I went with Resonix sound solution products https://resonixsoundsolutions.com . I have known the owner for a while through SQ audio forums/purchases and the products didnt disappoint. I put about 5-6lb of CLD tiles in the doors on the inner and outer sheet metal and another 1lb on the door cards. I also used his 45mm fiber mat - this is an amazing product. It is lightweight and absorbs sound. Does not absorb water and has adhesive backing. Neither product is cheap but the end result is impressive. No door rattles or buzzes even when letting the door speakers play down to 40-50hz (I dont recommend, was doing for test purposes). I will continue to upgrade the audio, but diminishing returns come very quickly and expensively. End goal is to have an active 2 way front plus sub on DSP.
here is the door card treatment, I may add a bit more once I order the 25mm mat for some tighter areas
Lastly, I finally got the alarm fixed after almost 2 years. The remote fell apart while at dinner one evening while the car was locked. It resulted in a tow home and I disconnected the alarm as a temp fix. A new remote ($120 ooof) was ordered, however I could not find the valet button. I am still in contact with the person that did this install (very nice work) but it was done 15 years ago. Theres no reason it should have been this big of a PITA but its one less thing I have to worry about. I will probably purchase a new back up battery to replace the one in the car since its 15 years old, but everything else seems to work as intended.

Been a couple months so time for an update since Ive got a few small ones. First are a few pics when I hung out with my localish buddy Vila from early August. Nothing specific to update there but they came out great and we had a good time at the small meet we attended prior to them.
Other than that, the car was at my friends shop for some time this month to handle the power steering rack install, Chasebays power steering kit, Front and rear camber arms and rear toe arms. My toe arms have been seized since I picked the car up, with the slightest toe out. The oem bushings had deteriorated to a point where I know it was affecting the alignment while in motion based on things I was feeling. The power steering kit gave us some problems due to poor R&D but we were able to work through that. I was on vacation about two weeks out of this month and was just able to align it last night. I ended up trading for a gen 1 Mugen front strut bar recently. These are a three piece design with brackets that bolt to the chassis on shock tops and the chassis bar holes and were discontinued around 2000 or maybe 2001 so I was super stoked to make a trade with a friend in Canada for this piece. It definitely is a tough to come by piece that Ive been on the hunt for, without paying The $1800+ price when they do pop up.
Ive got a few more things i want to address in the bay but finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel and its turning out as nice as Id imagined.
Thats basically all I needed to accomplish for the CHD tail of the dragon event next weekend, so thats a huge relief. Im going to drive it some and recheck the camber arm adjustment nuts and bolts over the weekend. Its only gone 5 miles since the alignment but I cay say its again a noticeable improvement with a completely refreshed suspension (the toe links, front and rear camber were the last OEM and or old pieces on the suspension).
My NR10R's ended up getting sold I was not completely happy with the refinish and I was made an offer I couldnt turn down. As much as I wanted them on the car, someone definitely wanted them more than I did, and I probably set a record high sales price for a set of Honda wheels
The fuel line setup is going to get done over the winter since Itll make more sense to pull the intake manifold for working room and to tidy a few other things. Planning to do some power/top end engine updates and a tbelt/water pump over the winter as well.
Hopefully will have some nice pics from the event at the Tail of the Dragon to share, Itll be my third time attending and looking forward to it again!

Back from a successful trip to CHD 8 at tail of the dragon! Met some new friends and saw some nice rides, but missed meeting quite a few people during the Saturday main event due to the size (700+ cars and I would guess a few thousand attendees). Already looking forward to the trip next year, and likely will go back before next years event.
This trip solidified that power steering was a great idea. Ive never enjoyed driving through us129 as much as I have this past weekend. I was able to get a nice traffic-free run through 3/4 of the way on Saturday morning around 7:45 and have more confidence in the car than I ever have. We didnt get multiple runs in but killboy snapped a couple that I really liked.
Using all of the lane...the people we saw doing dumb **** were bikes and non honda cars (going over the double yellow). I am sure there were some outliers but overall I was proud that the Hondas were keeping it safe and classy. We only saw one wreck and it was an Audi
I rarely burn my running lights but I think we had just rolled through some fog and love how this pic turned out!
Lastly a pic of some mustard, ketchup and relish. Dustin got the Midori out of paint on Monday 10/2 and was able to make it down Friday night. Mugen front lip, rear wing spoiler, mf10's on RE71rs, an FG360 wheel and Fortune Auto 500's. Jon's original owner PY ITR with a Formula cover, FG360 with pad and Spoon cluster among other things.

The car looked as good as ever. That Midori Green hatch was on point as well, if that's the same one that was with you last year. You guys had a nice lineup at the show.

That is the same Midori as last year. Really happy for Dustin on how it came out, hes been searching and stacking parts for it for a few years to get the respray.

I've recently picked up a '92 DX hatch to restore. Hopefully I can take it next year, but that will be a stretch. I've been trying to decide what color to paint it, and my wife fell in love with Midori Green after seeing your buddies car. I've always loved that color too, but in my mind, it belongs on the EK generation. It's sort of iconic.

I tried to stop by when you guys were over there, but there was already a big group of people circled around and I didn't want to interrupt. The CHD meet is a lot of fun and it's pretty much the only car show that I've made it to these past few years. It reminds me that I'm not too old to be messing with these Honda's. I fit right in with all of the other 40 year old's with grey in their beards.

Ive definitely noticed its a crowd around my(our I assume) age for the most part on the golden era stuff, slightly younger owners for fk8 and newer models. Definitely creates a pretty laid back atmosphere which is nice.
Awesome to hear you picked up a new project. If you want/need something specific let me know and Ill keep a look out. I actually have some spare disc brake RTA's with brand new oem honda bushings(need installed) Id sell if you need for the build since theyre just sitting around. Regarding midori, I am with you, it is definitely a unique color that I love but it doesnt work the same on another chassis. Ive seen an integra in the color and wasnt a fan, but having a hard time recalling if ive seen an EG with it.
