Looks like an illustration from a Jim McFarland article. Just something worth noting, 99 times out of 100, the theories ol' Jim is talking about are based on engines with carburetor's.

Would the latter increase velocity as the intake charge nears the valve seat?

Is the fuel actually shot at the back of the valve? I know that is the intended direction, but being a 2 valve intake it would have to fire directly at the port divider and be split in 2 for this to occur. I understand this is the intent, but how does it take place in the real world. I would assume a better atomized fuel mixture carried by the intake charge would be ideal??

I have no problem being wrong, but please take the time to educate me and everyone else who is here grasping at straws of knowledge in this haystack in a cage.

If a "D" shaped port isn't used to improve flow quality around bends by helping to keep the fuel vapour suspended in the intake air what are they for?
