So I have been working on this car for a few days now. It's a civic hx with a hitachi dis.

It started out, just one day he didn't to start the car and it wouldn't fire.

I have replaced the icm and coil. I can see some spark on the plugs, but its very weak. I thought maybe it was the plugs, so I got new ones, same problem.

I'm out of ideas

does anyone have any idea of what to check? i just did a compression check. Engine was cold, throttle open, normal cranking speeds and cranked about 4 to 5 times.

cylinder 1 = 120
cylinder 2 = 140
cylinder 3 = 150
cylinder 4 = 170

i know cylinder 1 shot, but how about 2? Would one bad cylinder and one on brink cause the car to not want to fire?

it should run, even with those horrible compression numbers. have you tried jump starting? low voltage is an odd thing. most times its not an issue, but i have had weirder problems.

also try a different main relay

I have jumped it off my truck, thats how i know when i checked the compression it was cranking normally.

How do i check the main relay? I do have fuel and i can hear the fuel pump kick on and off. Also, the check engine light does not light up on the dash as well as the tact does not move during cranking. I checked for 5 volts at the TPS sensor, and i do. That makes me believe the ECU is working.

Does someone know the timing? He did pull the dis off, maybe he has it backwards.

The distributor can only go on one way.

I have never had a main relay cut spark but not fuel. First time for everything though.

Maybe add a good ground wire to the head and see what happens. Spark plugs get their ground through the threads into the head. The head needs a good chassis ground to provide it to the plugs.

Or even more basic, cap, rotor, wires. Often easy to overlook the obvious.

Its SO CLOSE to starting.

Dumb question, i put my hand on the cap while the engine is starting, should i get shocked each time it goes to fire? I get shocked everytime, and if i keep my hand there long enough, i can feel it in my boots.

Should not get shocked, if you didnt already, replace the cap or wires if the spark is passing through them. You may be losing that same spark to the distributor housing.

thats the only thing that hasnt been replaced besides the whole dizzy.

since you are getting shocked, i would replace the cap and wires minimum. its so cheap, just add in the rotor and plugs. then your entire ignition system is new and you can rule that out

Well, I just put a new cap, another set of plugs and plug wires. Still no start.

I'm not getting shocked anymore, so that's good.

An update. So i got another Dizzy from a junkyard from a running car. It still has the same problems. It almost wants to start.

put some vicegrips on the fuel return hose and see what happens. sounds like low fuel pressure. either the pump is done(i know you hear it run, doesnt mean its pumping) or the regulator is done(highly unlikely)

I did put vicegrips on the return line, not much of a difference. I bought a fuel pressure gauge set, but i cant hook it up propery.

I'm having the same problem. Turned mt kill switch on wich is wired to my fuel pump now it won't start. Need help plz.

What grounds do you have hooked up?

Disconnect your battery and see if that works...

Check all your grounds and clean them along with your battery connections... put some dielectric grease on all the grounds and connections
