Just did Leakdown, Compression Test, and Checked Spark Plugs....
Ok, I did all this b/c I have noticed white smoke come out of my car at idle(only sometimes, and it usually only does this after it idles for over 5 mins) My friends told me it blows black smoke when getting on it, but that is normal b/c it is tuned at 12:1 A/F ratio under boost.
Leakdown was done with 100 lbs of pressure. I did not see any bubbles coming from the Radiator(Checked b/c of the White Smoke b/c possible blown Headgasket/Cracked Sleeve) Here is the Results:
Cylinder 1: 5%
Cylinder 2: 6%
Cylinder 3: 8%
Cylinder 4: 9%
Compression was done with car warm and WOT. Results:
Cylinder 1: 180
Cylinder 2: 175
Cylinder 3: 170
Cylinder 4: 170
Spark Plugs seem a bit white. It looked similar to this(Normal) but with a bit of black on the insulator. It had almost a Salt and Pepper look to it(which i have heard is detenation).
Since the numbers seem to go lower and lower from cylinder 1 to 4 on both tests does that tell me something?
I have not overheated at all (I haven't had any cooling issues)
Can anyone throw any ideas out for me. The car runs great. I am just paranoid i guess b/c of the white smoke everyonce in awhile.
Thanks
Corey

52 views and no posts. Do these numbers look ok. Anyone got any ideas why i am getting the smoke?
Thanks
Corey
Thanks
Corey
Compression # are all within 10% thats good, Cyl. leakage is ok too.
Do you see the smoke on days when the outside temp is warm/hot or only colder days? are you running a cat.conveter? Cat's turn un-burnt fuel into water vapor that will appear as white smoke out the tail pipe. I would keep running it, keep an eye on the coolant level in the rad. But dosent sound dead yet!
Good Luck

I think your car is fine. No bubbles and good leakdown is a
Maybe a furry animal climbed into your cat and is making the smoke?
BTW, I noticed the numbers in your sig. Impressive! Please list your setup. Im really curious.

Damn Corey.
I thought I was paranoid when I rechecked my numbers:
210 210 200 200
I get white smoke also for about 5min. If I "punch it" a combo of black/greyish smoke comes out .... Untuned and utterly RICH according to my SMC. I'm at -30% & IDLE is at -20% something (otherwise it will IDLE like crap).
Waiting on my Hondata junk.

I am thinking those numbers for the leakdown are a bit to much(to much leak). Do you guys think my rings are shot? could posible be oil burning instead of coolant?
I have 12% in one cylinder, under 7% in the other 3... I suspect its time for a semi built head one of these days. I think experienced techs can tell where the leak is coming from when doing a leakdown, might wanna try to find a good tech to check it out again
Ok....When you were doing the cylinder leak down test did you listen into the intake, tailpipe or remove the oil cap to see if you could feel or hear air?...That will help you determine if it is a valve or ring problem. Also something to watch out for is when the tool screws into the sparkplug hole it dosen't seal properly and will leak slightly giving a false reading, (so make sure your not hearing an air leak around the hose).

I was working on my car tonight b/c i was trying to figure out why my car is smoking. I am 99% it is Oil burning. And I just changed my oil to 10-w30 from 5w-30. Anyway, I took the return line off, dropped my car down and oil came pouring out of the fitting on my oil Pan.2 Questions
1. Could the oil be getting backed up making it smoke?
2. It is smoking more than it did before but could that be b/c the oil is thicker now?
Thanks
Corey

where is your oil pan tapped at? how does your return line hang? if oil is backing up it going to burn around the seals and give you the blue smoke.

It is tapped at the top of oil pan(as high up as we could get it). the Return line is about a ft long and it runs from a 90 degree AN fitting to a 45 degree fitting on the pan. It is -10 if i remember correctly. It runs flat then down to the pan. I am going to try and find a more direct route(going downward the whole time rather than flat then downward).
Should oil be coming out of the fitting when i drop my car to a level ground? Can that cause oil to burn/back up?
thanks

I am still trying to figure this out.
It seems to smoke after i have been driving it alot in hot weather (over 45 mins).

I have oil come out on level ground if I just remove my return. thats normal. I think you might be a lil too worried about it. everything seems good to me. do you see any oil in your coolant. any overheating?
if no then you are probably running crazy rich and that is the smoke you are seeing.
do you have a full exhaust or test pipe, cats?
I just rebuilt my motor and started boosting it & i'm freaked out by everything so I know how it is.
how bad is the smoke anyway?

When mine is ground level, oil comes out of my bung to. Remember, when your motor is running, the oil level in your pan drops because of all the oil circulating through the motor and filter.
