Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
I did a quick search on google for "2004 tsx burning oil" and a bunch of sites came up. So apparently this is definitely a issue.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
I did a search for keywords oil and consumption on Acura's ISIS and came up with nothing but how to troubleshoot oil consumption. NO recalls, bulletins, or service news and with 04 and 05 models falling out of warranty period i would not expect to see any new info from H & A on this issue.

If you read through a few of the threads you will notice that a few people have had their shortblocks replaced under warranty. Whats the warranty on these 7years 100K I believe? It also appears that the shortblocks were replaced with 06's.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
The warranty on the powertrain is 6y 70k on current new models from the date of its original delivery. The only way you have 7y 100k is if Acura care extended warranty was purchased on for the vehicle, bought the vehicle as an Acura Certified used from the dealer, Or if you purchased an aftermarket warranty on the vehicle.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
dohc note, you are not taking your car to the correct shop...
I dont know how far you are from Fredericksburg, VA, USA but it sounds like HatchVX is the guy to go to for a new engine. If his shop has done 9 k24's.. That means whoever they talk to for warranty, extended warranty, goodwill, or whatever is getting them done. Might be worth a trip. Could also make for the perfect time to document your actual oil consumption with reciepts and photos. Be prepared..

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
Thanks for the input guys. Once again I am getting into this pissing match with the dealer and their "acceptable oil consumption" range. I am now in the process of seeing if the Acura care warranty will pay my work to do it rather than take it to the dealer. Its kind of gray in the warranty book but it says that in the event that you are not able to get to an Acura dealer an outside shop can call and submit a claim and get refunded for the repair. I need to call and start doing some more complaining to Honda and Acura, wish me luck...

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
Hey guys, I have had a long and gruling experience with my 04 TSX 6MT. I have had the car for about two and a half years. I bought the car CPO from an Acura dealer with all service history with 60k on the clock. I get the car and drive it back and forth to work every day about 5 miles each way. After its first 1500 miles of me owning it the oil light comes on. I check the oil and there is nothing on the stick. I work at a shop so I put it up and see some oil residue on the exhaust manifold so I think that maybe the valve cover gasket is leaking and get it replaced under warranty. 1500 miles later the same thing happens, oil light on no signs of leaking no smoke from exhaust. I take it to two different Acura dealers and no one can find anything wrong. Finally I go to a third and they give me a rental and drive the car themselves. It ends up burning over a quart of oil in 250 miles! The car has had all services prior to me owning it at the dealer and none were late. They tear down the engine and find scoring in the cylinder walls so the engine has to be replaced. Afgter arguing for days all that my Acura care warranty will cover is a used engine. So they install it, it has 40k on it and everything seems OK. Until now, now I am still burning oil. Its not as bad though a little over a quart in a thousand miles. The engine is bone dry. I call the dealer ad they say that one quart per thousand miles is "Acura's acceptable range" and that I should check my oil every time I get gas. Now since I work at a shop I always check every TSX's oil level when they come in for an oil change and they're usually dead on. I change my oil with mobil 1 oil and a honda filter. I've tried diferent weight oil, synthetic, non synthetic, nothing helps. I dont drive the car hard, it probably never sees over 3500 RPM. The guys at the dealer see me as being a younger guy and think automaticly that I beat the hell out of the car but its the complete opposite. Ive searched and seen a few threads on the oil rings in these engines sticking causing consumption. Have any of you TSX owners had these issues?

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
My wife and I just paid off our 2006 TSX last month (we bought it new). This is the only car that I've never worked on myself. The dealership has performed every scheduled maintenance requirement and we have the paperwork to prove it. My wife was about to exit onto a major interstate during afternoon rush hour traffic when the car stalled. After having it towed to the dealership we discovered the engine locked up because it was down to 1½ quarts of oil. The dealership has SO FAR accepted responsibility, but they're still investigating the cause and therefore has not offered any type of fix or compensation. I'm somewhat amazed that we never received a warning on the dash about low oil or possible overheating of the engine. Furthermore, there is no evidence of an oil leak on my driveway. It sucks, but this could have been a much different story had my wife actually made it onto the highway before it stalled on her. I just hope the dealership can offer an acceptable solution to this problem. I've driven a lot of cars, and I've never heard of a car consuming this much oil.

Sometimes u cannot trust the workers at the dealer. They are very lazy, they do not make any comission besides what they get hourly from small jobs like that. So they may slack of in hopes u return with a blown engine, which is when they can make the real money from u. This is just my experience from working at an acura dealer.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
Could be. When I lived in FL as a honda/acura/mazda tech, techs were very specific. Here in NC I've seen some shady stuff. Since leaving the tech side of things and having to take my wife's civic for warranty work,I have found myself having to repair it myself just to know it is done right. I think is sucks that people cannot be trusted to do a simple task.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
Same story at this end with my 04.
I also run synthetic with a 5W30 weight. I'll run 10W30 next oil change to see if that helps. I am loyal to Honda and only have ever had this problem with an LS/Vtec build from a few years ago. I was running 12.9:1 compression and expected it.
I most definitely would not have expected the K24 to be burning oil like this.
I still love the TSX!!

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
I have an 04 TSX 6spd that I beat on when ever I feel like it. I have 110K (had it since 40K) and the thing still runs smooth and very little oil consumption with 5K oil change intervals. Sorry to hear about all these problems with your cars. I didnt know that there ever was an issue. What I would recommend that someone emails ans calls Acura headquarters and show them this thread. With enough support they will listen!

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
I have a 2004 TSX bought it with 15,000 miles in early 2005 changed the oil around every 5,000 miles car ran great until about 6 months ago it started using about 1.5 qts of oil every 600 miles took it to the dealer, they had the car for 6 weeks befor they told me it would need a new short block. The car just turned 70,000 miles and now it needs $8,000 dollers worth the work. Acura USA said they would pay 50% of the cost and that it was a very generous offer. It's my understanding that this is a factory defect. I do not won't to pay anything because there was nothing I did to cause this problem.
This was a time bomb wating to go off. My extended worenty was up in May of this year. Thats right only 2 months ago, Acura at this time was doing an oil consumption test and now the extended warrenty wont cover any of the work? Still fighting with Acura USA need to know of any others having same problem now or befor. I was under the impression i was going to get 200,000 miles or more out of this car. I just spent $800 dollers on the 60,000 mile check up the said the car was like new. Then when I had the oil changed 5,000 miles later they asked if I would like cabin air and moter air filter changed I said Acura just did and thy laughed and said the cabin filter was original and the air filter had more then 5,000 miles on it. Sory so long
