What do you think of this deal on this acura RL?
Ok so here is the story.. I have been in the market for a new car for what feels like forever.. I have had my eye on the 05 acura RL since it was brand new.. up until the brand new rl model came out used rl's were in the 28 to 30 thousand dollar range.. now that the new model has been released they have dropped to within my price range..
I spent a bunch of time at 3 acura dealers yesterday and I found the third dealer most willing to negotiate on price..
the car is a 2005 Acura RL.. 61,500 miles Certified Pre-Owned with the VERY RARE A-Spec Package which is a oem body kit and nicer rims..
they were asking $24K plus tax title and license.. I got them down to $21.5K Out the door plus I give them my beater car as a trade in which is worth about $1200.. I think it is a VERY fair deal but I was hesitant and decided to go home and think about it before I pulled the trigger..
What do you guys think of this deal?

It looks pretty clean, as it should being at a dealership. I would imagine the 61,000 miles that are on in are probably abuse free. If its what you want and you can afford it then you should do it regardless of what HT tells you.

Without knowing anything about your financial situation or what you're looking for in a car, I'd say do it. They are pretty nice. Not a car I'd buy personally at this stage in my life, but nothing wrong with it, either.

That gen RL didnt hold its value very well... for some stupid reason. its a great car, and i think you may be able to do better on pricing via private party.
FYI.. there is nothing rare about that unit

to be 100% honest out of the 10+ RL's I checked out this one has more "wear" in some areas than other.. the front bumper has some small rock chips that could possibly use a repaint in the future but the car is clean and it comes certified up to 100K which I doubt I will even own the car by then so mechanically I think I am in the clear..

the lowest I can find on this vehicle is $18k for similiar miles from a private party and once you factor in the tax and title im back around $20K and that is without the aspec packacge or the certified pre-owned warranty

really? because this is the only black RL with aspec that I can find within a 500 mile radius of my house.. I would consider that to be on the rare side..

If I were to spend that amount of money, I would want something a bit lower on the milage.
That is a nice car though, if you can afford it and like it, I say go for it. I think it will depreciate significantly over its time with you, however.

the price is not bad.
how long do you plan on owning it, and how many miles would you put on it?

it really is baller.. it offers more features for its price than any other vehicle I can find..

2 points to make:
1. there is no significant service for the RL in the owners manual until it hits 100K miles.. just oil and filter changes until then..
2. How much more could it possibly really depreciate? I mean any lower than 20K and you are talking used accord territory..

plan on owning it a max of 2 years and I would doubt I would log more than 15K miles per year in that time

Why the [freak] would you pay 20k+ for a car you only plan on owning for 2 years? Are you an idiot? Lease the [freak]ing thing if you only want it for 2 years and 15k miles...

I haven't looked at the pricing on them recently but I love those cars. We had a used one on the lot a while back with about 41k on it that we sold for $23k not certified. Very fun car to drive.

there is not many lease options out there for less than a 30 month period.. I might not even own it for a full 2 years.. I get tired of cars very easily..

Great car, but I prefer the 04-08 TL styling more. Enough that I can do without the AWD. The RL has a little more HP too, but it weighs more so it probably equals out.

after driving my friends mercedes e500 which has similiar hp numbers but weighs 1000 pounds more than RL I was not blown away by the acceleration of the RL.. but it is still plenty fast for my needs..

these cars were a total bomb. WHat does that generation RL offer that the TL from last generation does not?
Save some money and get a lower mileage TL.
No way I would pay 24+ TTL for that car with 60k miles

When you say things like
RARE Aspec kit ..... the dealer has already messed with your head, just buy it and when it breaks down remember that you have a nice lip kit
When you could have gotten a newer TL with less miles for the same $

hate to say it, but i agree with him.
Also to the OP, you know that if someone breaks after you hit your 100k extended you're going to get raped.
My tsx navi had cd's get stuck in the dash and was covered under warranty, had it been a USED tsx it would have been about 2500 out of pocket (unless i junkyard shopped) for it.
The RL would be more then that, just remember because its flashy and nice doesn't mean its the best option for you.
Oh and BTW Rl's aren't baller lol i think they had worse sales numbers then any acura on record.

Alot of car/features for the money .....wait for one with Lower mileage and i dont htink think a OEM kit and nicer wheels translates into RARE but its a nice car though.

61K miles are you kidding me?!
Maybe it's just me, but if I am going for luxury it would not pass 20K miles. That's just...iono...I can't do it. I mean if I ain't balling I won't pretend to be.

How about an intelligent all wheel drive system.. adaptive xeon lights.. and IMO a more plush interior and nicer exterior styling for starters..
The TL is an awesome car but my next vehicle ABSOLUTELY will not be fwd
also I am not quite sure where you came up with 24K pls TTL I would be paying 21,500 OUT THE DOOR meaning ttl was included..

the factory Aspec kit is more rare than a equal vehicle equipped without it.. I have searched extensively and there are 50 used rl without the kit for every 1 I can find with it.. by definition that would make that factory option more rare would it not?
I am not worried about the car breaking down since it is factory certified until 100K and I will not own the car past that point..
