Default Could this be a wheel bearing or a bad axle?? -00 TL

2000 Acura TL. Ok well I have some noise/ slash vibration coming from my front end. Usually if Im going around 40mph and am sitting in the passenger I can feel the vibration at my feet almost feels like a wobble. Today I was almost able to feel it at all speeds. When I turn Left it seems to go away, but when I turn right it almost feels worse. My instincts are telling me that its a bad inner cv joint but I am not sure. I got the car on jackstands today put it in drinve and had my brother hit the gas while I crawled underneath. I told him to do it lightly but he is a dumb*** and hit it hard. Unfornutaley i made the mistake of forgetting to turn off the TCS so my test was invalid, and I didnt feel like taking the chance of my brother doing the same thing and revving the crap out of it again. Well I guess my question is do you guys think it is my axle that is bad or could it be a wheel bearing? Also do you think my car was hurt at all by my brother reving it hard? Thanks in advance to all who reply.

If the sound gets worse, or goes away when you're turning the car, its kind of sounding like the wheel bearing to me...

Try driving down a road where you can weave left to right slowly at the speed you hear your noise at. If you weave one way and hear it, and weave the opposite way the noise goes away, sounds like the wheel bearing. you can put it back on stands with the TCS off this time, and put it in drive and have someone you trust this time drive it in 2nd or whatever gear you feel you hear the noise at. get a long screwdriver (or stethoscope if you have) and put it on the back of the rotor/wheel bearing area) and listen to it. i dont think i must warn you about being careful under there though. If you do have a bad bearing, you'll hear one side louder than the other for sure. if its not, then yes, go on to the axles next. cheaper after market axles are available if you think the noise is in them. a sure sign of the axle bad though, is figure 8's. get in a huge parking lot and just turn to lock one side and go slow, if the axles bad, it will click. do the same in the other direction to check it out.

reving the motor really will not hurt it... while at the dealerships ive worked at we've had cars running in the air at 60+ miles an hour for bearing noises among other things. Nothing really to worry about. If he pegged it, peg him.

Im sorry I didnt read your full thread. If the vibration is while accelerating then rotate the tires. If it goes away then you have a bent rim. I have 3. The rims bend like pretzels. If its still there then its the axle. I find that hard to beleive unless you curbed the car. The wheel bear will generally just make a noise. And Yes turning right and left it goes away then you have a bad bearing. Guarantee its the rim. Axles general just start clicking when turning. Never seen one just bend and go bad. But I guess possible if you hit the front wheel very hard....

Do you hear a noise or vibration or both?
