B20/VTEC turbo AWD CR-V...has anyone done it?
Has anyone done a turbo, AWD CRV? Whether it be B20/VTEC or straight B20?

Would the original B20 engine be a better candidate for a turbo due to its lower compression? Could the same be achieved with the later with thicker head gasket?
Just toying with the idea...

I think that was a FWD model...my dad had a 98 crv awd....i was thinking of doing something like that but i'd have to do a manual tranny swap and itll cost way too much for everything...

yes it can be done, however stock b20 sleeves are thin, and if you get a boost spike its possible to crack a sleeve, and depending on what VTEC head you use, i think you will actually drop compression due to the head cc

I have a 97' CRV and am gettin ready to install my turbo kit one of these next couple days. I have a friend who has a b20/VTEC hatch and it flies, I could only imagine the 2 of them together. But if the install was done wrong then its a timebomb.

I've had a B20/VTEC in my civic for about 3 yrs. now it still runs great. but if you are giong to put a VTEC head you might want to think about swaping out the main bearings to GSR's so i can handle the higher RPMs.(don't want to spin a bearing) I am now currently building another block for my CR-V which will be sleeved for turbo and will also have a VTEC head bolted on to it. By spring my AWD CR-V will be pushing @400 HP. good times

Do you think the Realtime 4WD will be able to handle that much power? Keep us updated.

I think it was Honda Tuning magainze, (or maybe another Honda magazine). That put the CRV's Real Time 4-WD system in a integra. They had a big write up on it in that issue of the magazine, maybe search for the topic and check that article out to see if it'll fit. That'd be sick as **** if it did 2.

I hope so if not I'm going to take out the real time slip disc set-up and weld everthing up to make it all-time 4wd. but i'll keep you all updated.

I have the Honda Tuning Mad with me at home and all they did was take out all of the unnecessary pumps and clutches and welded it all together.

Re: (jdmgsr_eg6)
save your self the money and just buy the head and replace the main bearings. If you were to put a type r engine in you V you would lose off the line everytime. because you would loose your lowend torque, not a good idea. I was using a b16 in my integra as a spare engine and i could really feel the loss of low end power.

According to the guy who welded diff so that his Integra (with CRV AWD) could be RWD, the axels can handle a whole lot of power.

the rear axles on a crv are like the thickness of my finger, i dont see that holding much power at all.

My buddy owns/built the Integra. So fun to ride in. Busting donuts in an Integra, awesome.
