They can't...legally.
I've got it on my '97 and it's great in the winter. You just can't leave it in gear.

Re: Remote Start? (sticky icky)
I'd be careful though, if a theif knows it has remote start then they'd know that you might not be using another separate theft-preventative measure like killswitches or unplugging of stuff... Also if they watch your car when you happen to start it remotely say bye bye.

Mine came with remote start but I disabled it. Seems too risky. Im the only one that drives the car so i know how i left it, but better safe than sorry.

They use an immobilizer bypasss module in order for remote start to work on coded ignitions.

The compustar has a cool safety feature so you can't autostart when it's left in gear.

I don't understand how your more at risk using a remote start. If the car is started remotely and it's broken into, the engine dies just as if it were never started and the alarm goes off. Your alarm then activates whatever kill switches you have hooked up to the alarm.

and i thought about upgrading to compustar, but i was told that the only thing that made the compustar safer with their safety feature was that u had to enable it when u are leaving your car.... put in neutral, turn remote start on, leave car, lock it and turn off motor... that is what i was told from the shop that installed my compustar on my civic

Same here...err...except I like to be "in" it.
I opted to have it not installed when I got my system. It was also $60 cheaper to do it that way, too.

Re: Remote Start? (IBriaIN)
I had a 94 RS and it was cool, it gets old very quickly. Besides it bypasses your clutch, which to me makes it easier for thiefs to steal it. When I had mine, it had a switch that attached to the chassis. When the hood was closed the switch was pressed down (kinda like the top lid of the PSone) and when it opened the switch came up and if the car was armed or remote started it would set off the alarm. Once again it ok, but in my opinion not for an ITR any other car
Mostly for thief issue.....fawking theives

I thought about it but since i started driving many moons ago i have always left the car in gear when off so i dont think its a good idea for me.
I once seen this guy with a peugeot 306 GTi-6 and he was bummin about his remote start, and the guys were asking him at what distance it would start from...we were in a big open car park, his car was parked in the middle and there was a light post in front of the drivers side of the car. He walked back to the far end of the car park (about 200 yards away and held up the remote pointing it at the car, didnt work, so he walked a little closer, didnt work, so he walked closer again, pointed and it started, jumped forward and hit the light post busting the drivers side head light and cracking the bumper into *****....I couldnt help it but I nearly **** myself laughing!!!!!!!!!!!
