The Great Oil Test ???
Anyone interested in starting something like the great header test, but for oil?
With all the discussions lately about it, there appears to be a simple answer. Test the different oils in a lab.
Heres a place that will do it for $18.50 per sample:

What do you think?

We should probably try not to turn this thread into yet another oil discussion.
Instead, just, do you all really want to know whats the best oil for your car?
And do you think this is a good way to determine that?

Why do you keep bringing this up!?!?!?
When you change oil as often as we do, oil is oil is oil. I'm sure there are minute differences, but most people have a preference for a type of oil and will use that. You really can't go wrong buying oil as long as you buy the right grade. It's not like there's companies selling raw crude in a can.
But if you do spend your money and send out a bunch of oils to be tested, go ahead and post up the results.

Well, I'm all for a test...
I am very curious about the Mobil-1 dilemma. I will be changing my oil this saturday with Rodney in preparation for the next Auto-X. I'm gonna get castrol GTX and run it in Both of our cars. I'll test and see if I lose ANY. We are both interested in the results. I had always used Castrol GTX on All of my cars with NO loss and NO problems!
As everyone knows, for some reason the Mobil-1 seems to just dissappear. I tend to go through 1/4 to 1/2 a quart between 3K changes including events. Rodney changes his even more often and he STILL has the same trouble. Both of our cars are not daily drivers and We BOTH seem to lose at least 1/4 of a quart regardless of driving circumstances.
Curious,
A.

It came from metal touching metal.
AKA mobil1 seems to have twice as much wear in that regard.

But if you read the 9 page post ealier, there was a post from a guy who tested mobil1 vs a oil called schaeffers. Mobil1 had twice as much lead in it. Now.... where did that lead come from???

Yes Mobil 1 does seem to cause more wear for some, but I've had good luck with it and will continue to use it. If Mobil 1 is ever the cause of my car burning to the ground, I'll let you guys know.
