Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
Just don't sit on them for 30 years only to end up selling them for the 2039 inflation-adjusted equivalent of $20k. Sell them now for market value and make some other chump worry about storing and maintaining them. You said it yourself, you don't drive them, you don't need the money, so why would you say you're willing to wait for the right buyer? The right buyer in this situation is the person with cash willing to get them out of your garage at a reasonable price. I'm not saying you should be willing to get screwed on the price, but if it were me and I had the choice of getting 20k today or 25k after having these things on and off the market for 2 years taking up my garage, I'd gladly sacrifice the measly 10 grand to get on with my life.
Just my 2 cents.

Too cool! Regardless of what you do with them, I'm impressed you didn't jump on the urge to drive them more (especially track atleast one).
Good luck and get some damn pictures! :-P

Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
I own both free and clear, I am financially stable and don't need the money for either of them. On the other hand, I'd take the money from them to buy another piece of real estate for some rental income plus someone would actually enjoy them versus collecting dust in my garage. When I bought them, I figured I'd keep them forever, but I've lost all interest in cars due to my career and maybe I've just grown out of them alltogether.
Either:
1. Keep them, maintain them, build additional garage, and sell them 40-50 years later.
2. Sell them now, don't build garage, buy rental properties, and collect rent.
#1 seems to require cash and #2 gets you cash.

Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
It is extremely difficult to estimate market value when there are few comparable cars around. If someone has an ITR in good condition with 100K miles on it, you can find a bunch of similar cars on Autotrader and elsewhere, and see what the asking prices are. But you're not going to find a lot of cars with mileage this low, so it's next to impossible to find other prices to use as "comps" (comparable) in coming up with an estimate.
The other thing is, with a unique car, it depends on finding that one particular buyer who is willing to spend a lot more for a super-low-mileage ITR. If you do happen to find him, he may be willing to spend a lot of money for it. If you don't, well... (And the big challenge in finding that person is not just a matter of where to list it, but also, a matter of timing - having your listing out there at just the time when he decides to look for an ITR.)
My guess is similar to the other posters - something in the $22-25K range. But that's strictly a guess.
If you're really interested in selling, AND if you aren't in a hurry, you can always list it with a price on the high side (say $30K) and see what you get. If you don't get an offer you're willing to accept, you can always reduce your asking price after a while.
Good luck.

Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
These are two cars I would definitely be interested in owning in a few years, if one is still available.
I missed my opportunity to buy a brand new one back in '98. I am now almost 32 and would definitely like to pick up one that has never been abused or modified and has low miles. I wouldn't make ANY changes to it. Keep it stock and only make changes when parts wear out. I would only put back on new OEM parts. Only drive it on nice days.
My only debt right now is my house. Once I can pay down some more on it, I will be in the position to pick up another toy. Also depends on the direction Obama takes this country. I'm not very optimistic...but that's a whole different story.
I'll contact you if/when I get in the position to buy.

Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
Price you can sell it for really comes down to what someone else is willing to pay.
What people are willing to pay is vastly different what someone FEELS that they are worth.
Something like "I wouldn't sell them for a penny less than 25k" is worthless if there is nobody willing to pay 25k.
That said, if you are just feeling the market out my advice is to put them on eBay with a 30k reserve and just put them up for auction. That will give you a relative "market" price.

Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
Wow, great question.
It's threads like this that really make me want another CW Type R like your '98. I remember driving down the beach here in NC to pickup my '97 with like 20k original miles in mint condition several years ago...
What it's worth is going to be set primarily by a buyer and you. Most young folks can't come up with $17-25,000 for a car that's more than a few years old due to insuffient collateral.
If you would entertain taking anything close to $20k please don't hesitate to shoot me a pm.

OP....ITrs have been taken away from garages, i would secure the entire garage or something, maybe even putting a bunch of heavy stuff behind the cars so it doesnt get stolen.

We all know cars are a terrible investment, however that changes when enough people feel the same way you do about a particular vehicle. Then they become collectors' items.
anyway keep the cars and if someday you have problems or something and need the money ... sold them

Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
To the original poster, you seem like someone that has some financial sense. For that reason, you are absolutely silly for considering hanging on to these cars. The opportunity cost of keeping them sitting in your garage is reason enough to unload them. It sounds like you've gotten a offers of $20K-$25K for them already, you should take this money.
As someone that is considering the purchase an ITR, it gets a little irritating what people think they should be worth. I've recently seen a post where someone noted they were offered $50K for their ITR and turned it down, and now they would "settle" for $35K (or something like that). If that is true, then I'm not sure if I should feel sorry for that person or what, because turning down $50K for an ITR is ridiculous in my opinion. If you are in a position where you don't need that money, then you should have enough sense to know that it makes sense to take that offer.
As rare as these cars appear to be, I don't think that they should be sitting around for people to look at. I personally don't understand people that collect cars and don't drive them, but to each his own I guess. When I get mine, I fully intend to use it for what it was built for.
I can't say much else that hasn't really been noted in this thread. But the market for these cars was probably nailed down pretty well with 18-25 year olds with the need for financing which just isn't going to happen. I hope if someone is willing (and able) to pay you the $25K+ that I think you want for each of these, that you take it.

Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
Thats nice that you have two. But you have to take in consideration it is all in the eye of the beholder or who wants to buy them. I am just taking my R out or town for the first time, I am always leary of someone wanting to steal it, see in my home town I dont drive it much and I also have a garage. But thats cool my 45 will reach out and touch someone.

Re: 2 Low Mileage ITR Values
Hah, I'd love to see someone get either of them out of my garage. Hell, I'll leave the doors unlocked. It would take hours to get to them, off the jack stands and out of the garage. I have so much **** piled in front of and around them, it's hard to move in my garage. To the person who asked, there is nothing stored on top of them. They just need to be rolled out, fluids changed and washed to be ready to go.
I thought this post died, so I left it as is. I will sell both of them if I get what I am looking for. Unfortunately, I have to figure out what the hell I want for them. I will make an effort to do this soon. Keep in mind, whatever I ask for them will not be negotiable, so I could care less about comments on my asking prices and low ball offers will not be considered
I will get off my **** and get some pics up soon since so many are asking about them.
