VTEC HELP!!!
Recently my vtec stop working. so i checked the oil level and it looked good when the engine sits overnight and its cold. but if the engine is hot like i drive it around for alil bit and shut it off let it sits around 5-10mins and i pull out the dipstick again the oil level is low its in between the 2 dots below the max point. so im assuming my oil pressure drops when the engine is hot and that causes vtec not to engage?? btw car runs perfectly fine and no cel!

Re: VTEC HELP!!!
oil pressure would def cause vtec not to engage.
but if you're not throwing any codes at startup, no sensors, probably not solenoid... cel doesn't come on even when you get on it through vtec rpm's?
Sorry not to familiar with this type of thing.
But with your oil being good overnight, thats normal.. after a start up it takes a quite some time for all of the oil to drop from head to pan... as long as ur not blowing smoke you should be fine.
I mean, honda's burn oil, and leak oil.. wachu gonna do

Re: VTEC HELP!!!
wouldnt it throw a cel if the vtec solenoid is bad? i just replaced the vtec solenoid gaskets last month cus it was leaking oil from there and vtec was working till now it just stops out of nowhere. and no cel's throwing.

generally this is one of two things, lack of oil pressure or a bad solenoid. you've already been told how to check the solenoid and no it doesn't always throw a code. low operating temp oil pressure is often caused by excessive clearances in the engine. in short your engine is nearly shot. you can either tap the block for an oil psi gauge or try 20-50w oil which should be good for somewhere around 10psi of oil pressure over 5-30.

Re: VTEC HELP!!!
vtec fluid?? what? never heard of that. lol
well, like i mentioned above car runs fine and never throw any cels beside o2 and vss and i already got them fixed. and also when the engine is cool oil level is perfect but after it has been running and i let it sits for 5-10mins and check the dipstick, oil level is below the max point. my oil is kinda old, it seems dark so ima try to change the oil first and look for other things later if it doesnt solve the problem. which one should i go with 10w-30 or 5w-30? and ima get a honda oil filter also anyone happens to know what part number of honda oil filter that fits a gsr motor?

Re: VTEC HELP!!!
5 or 10 30 are virtually the same thing this time of year. both are 30w, 5 is just a better flowing oil when cold
vtec fluid is slang for oil btw
