So like the title says my timing belt jumped 2 teeth the other day. All timing components were replaced in December of last year when I swapped the motor and had maybe 5-6 thousand miles on them. The belt was unusually loose and the new one I got from the dealer is nice and tight. Any insight as to why my belt would have skipped like that? The car is a 95 hatch, B18B1 with a GSR trans.

the old belt had no more than 6 thousand miles on it and came direct from John Hinderer Honda here in Heath Ohio, along with a new tensioner, spring, and water pump. tension was set according to Haynes manual and torqued to 40 lb-ft, also according to Haynes manual.

And how did the Haynes manual say to do it? I suspect the belt was incorrectly tensioned.

if you did get OEM Honda parts for everything then there should be no issues other the "operator error" no offence.

frick i only hand tighten my tensioner: of course till it gets snug and tight but never used a torque wrench on one. Looks like i will be now

the manual says to rotate the crank three teeth counter clockwise to set tension on the front of the belt, then rotate the engine 5-6 times and check tension on the belt. the belt was nice and tight when I dropped the motor in the car abd I only got 6k miles out of it. I used the same procedure on the new belt I just installed

how is everyone else tensioning their belts ? I've never had one fail at 6k. this is my first b series and I really don't have the time to swap again with work and going to class

I tighten my belt and tensioner the same the 3 teeth method. Honestly if it happens again thats something to worry about. Did you line up the cam sprockets and crank for tdc before installing the belt and tensioning it?

yea, I always make sure everything is at tdc before I ever take my belt off and I double check everything before I put the covers back on. I'm hoping it was just a fluke
