smog question...
I did a search and didnt find the answer i was looking for.
I have a jdm gsr motor in my 95 integra, only mods are a mugen sports cat-back exhaust. Motor still has stock air-box, and a cat.
Should this setup pass smog considering its a jdm gsr motor? Should my only consern be if the cats to old?

aren't smog regulations in Japan stricter than ours? Either way, a JDM engine is illegal. In fact, ANY type of motor swap is illegal. I'd think it would pass smog tho. Unless the tester could distinguish visually a USDM from a JDM B-series motor...

I dont live in Cali and I only hear how strict your smog is down there but heres some help....Change your oil before you go, take your car to your mechanic and he/she should have a tester and tell ya if your going to pass or not. Then if your not going to pass he can advance/retard your timing and it could help you pass. Thats what I did up here in Wa, but were too easy on smog (thank god)

false, you can legally swap certain motors into the car as long as it came from a newer car and retains all the smog equipment and is from a passenger car

Yes as long as you have all the cal smog equipment on the vehicle you syould pass visuel inspection, as to the higheer compression, that in it self doesn't matter as long as your co2 and nox levels are within the legal limit. the window is pretty big and as long as you have a good cat you should be fine. As for needing a motor from the same year or newer this is true, if your car is a 95 you need a motor from a 95 or newer, however must smog tech can't distinguish between a B18c1 from 94 and one from 98 so don't wory.
