Default Small problem with new DA exhaust!!

Just looking for some help in the DA department. I have a 90 rs that i recently swapped a b16a into. The problem is when i bought the car, it was basically a shell, so i had to pretty much source out everything i needed for it. I just recently bought an exhaust for it, but after installing it. I noticed that there is like a 5 or 6 inch gap between the cat and the header. ive heard of people having these types of problems with the second gen teg, but i dont remeber the solution to this problem. Is it the cat i have to switch out? or is the exahaust wrong for it?, which i doubt. The cat that is on there came from a 91 teg, but it seems like it needs to be much longer to work with the swap. BTW the header is the stock b16a (which is the 1st gen) manifold that came on the engine. Do i need to swap that out? Is the american b16a header longer?

any help is greatly appreciated.

tia,
chaz

come on!! someone has got to know something. Im thinking the jdm b16a header is just too short and that i would need a usdm b-series header. Can someone quote me on this?

Try gettin spacers to fill in between the spaces. I know some muffler shops or some parts shop will sell them. What i would do is just have a muffler shop cut off the flange on the cat and have them weld in the extra space needed in between the flange and the cat.

I don't know why you have a 6 inch space - what cat, header and exhaust are you using? If you have a 90-91 header, cat, and exhaust then the space shouldn't be that big even with the b16. In order to use a 90-91 exhaust on a 92-93 Integra, you usually need this extension that was sold with most catback exhaust kits at the time, but I am not sure how long it was.

The easiest thing, like mentioned before, is to have a little extension pipe made for you with flanges on either side - should cost around $50 or less.

the header, cat, and mid-pipe are all different lengths between 90-91 and 92-93. I know the b-pipe is longer for 92-93, the header is shorter, and I think the cat is longer. as mentioned, you can either try to buy all matching parts, or just have a muffler shop make you a spacer to take up the gap.

haha i have the same problem i just installed the xsi (still not running) in the works of wiring it in my 90 Da. but there is a gap....i was just goin to get the jdm length test pipe from omnipower, it can actually extend too. yes, there wont be a cat. if your in cali, then id go to a muffler shop and get a cheap xtension - shouldnt be much at all.

I had the same problem w/ my DA.
I put in a b16, 00 Si 1pc. header, a highflow cat for a 92 DA, stainless b-pipe and spoon rear sec. I just got a muffler shop to "fill" the gap and all was well. Find a good shop that won't do a crappy cut and paste and u should be fine.

I've seen that problem before also....do you have the stock header laying around or a 92? When I used my stock header on my swap, everything bolted up fine.

u can use ur stock header from the ls, which should fit but 4-1. the b16 comes w/ a 4-2-1.

I appreciate everyones replies, i look into it it and found that most of you guys are right, and there are differences in the lengths in b-pipe, cat, etc for the 90-91 and 92-93. Ive decided to just take off the cat, and have it extended, rather than sourcing another header. BTW if i were to decide to go with a aftermarket header, would i have to change the cat again? or could i just find one for a 90-91 teg? What im asking is, is there a difference between the aftermarket headers on the 90-91 tegs and the 92-93?

Yes, the 90-91 integra header has the o2 on one of the primaries, while the 92-93 has the o2 bung after the merge collector, right before the cat.

I ran into the same problem when putting an RS*r catback on my 92 da.
All i did was just create a test pipe, use a piece of flex pipe and and old resinator, does the trick with some welding
